Lakewood is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 27,678 at the 2010 census. It is the eighth-most populous city in King County and the second-most populous city on the Kitsap Peninsula. The name "Lakewood" comes from Lake Wenatchee. The first Europeans to visit what is now Lakewood were Dutch fur traders in 1792. They named the area after their patron saint—the Reverend Cornelis Reyker of Utrecht, Netherlands—because he had donated land for a church in early 18th century Winthrop Harbor on Tacoma Bay. Many of these early settlers built homes near present day Seventh Avenue and Olive Way SW (now Kirkland Way SW), as part of an effort to preserve rural property while expanding into new territory that became Seattle and Tacoma with growing populations. The platting of roads in what are now neighborhoods began soon after incorporation as Lakewood on January 25, 1909 by City Council member John Herron and two other members of council who represented Snohomish County On July 1, 1911, City Council member James Aiken proposed adding Yesler Park to the boundaries of Lakewood but it was rejected by commissioners because they felt that Yesler Park would become too large for its original nucleus or located too far from business areas along Seventh Avenue NW and Olive Way SW which would become increasingly important with increased development around them as residential areas started to form around Interstate 5 (northwest corner) and Queen Anne's Island NW (southwest corner). In 1916 when Spokane moved into his Arboretum neighborhood north of downtown Spokane - annexation proceeded through referendum due to lack of recognition from City Council during planning process In 1919 when Tacoma annexed much further Northwest than either Bellevue or Shoreline Village - annexation proceeded through referendum due to lack of recognition from City Council during planning process However Everett did not annex until 1922 despite being considered by many as likely successor due to similarity geographically between both cities City growth continued unabated until World War II when aluminum production increased demand for goods manufactured outside the US which led manufacturers such as Boeingand Lear Corporationto open plants within city limits During WWII most residents left Michigan suburbs for military housing near Puget Sound Naval Base & Naval Air Station(present day Kentfield Marina)thus reducing population density & stranding many families in schools& streets they could no longer leave

The company produced submarines, destroyer escorts, landing craft amphibians/fire boats, refrigerated trains and other vessels until its bankruptcy in 1987. One building still standing from that time is Everett Shipyards which still produces vessels today under various names including: Alaskan Way Bridgebuilder (); Brownells (); Cain () (); Clarkson (); Checkered Flag ().
