Lakewood is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 36,583 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County. As of 2018, Lakewood is the fastest-growing city in Washington State. Lakewood's history dates back to 1853 when settlers arrived on what is now the east side of Lakewood Boulevard in what is now the city limits. Development began with small family farms and later grew into an agricultural town that became a center for forest products production and shipping. In 1922, Lakewood annexed part of the neighboring town of Sammamish which had been founded by Russian immigrants in 1855 as a result of land grants given to them by George Washington Carver. The annexation made Lakewood one of Washington's largest cities and gave it its present name: "The City". In 1958, Mayor John Witherspoon proposed tearing down two blocks east of downtown (the old Kettle Falls Iron Works) and replacing it with a park named after then-Mayor Witherspoon himself – Parkland Park (later renamed Harbor Park). The proposal met opposition from some residents who felt their homes would be destroyed and that park acreage would be lost. However, on October 15, 1958, voters approved $211 million for the construction of Harbor Park including money raised from property taxes on businesses within walking distance of the new park. Construction began on October 26th and finished less than a year later on December 3rd; Mayor Witherspoon declared Harbor Park open to the public on January 6th 1959! The incorporation of King County in 1907 brought about new challenges for Lakewood; first among these was concerns over how best to serve as both county seat and business district. A committee was formed to recommend a site for county government but ultimately decided against moving southward along I-405 because there were available more acres closer to Seattle which would have allowed for better transportation connections between those cities and Lakeside Manor (now Downtown Bellevue), where government services could be located more easily than further north near downtown. Other options considered included relocating county offices or creating ferry terminals outside town so that goods could be transported directly from Seattle or Tacoma without having to go through Lakeside Manor or Mukilteo/Bellevue respectively! These days, many cafes continue roastings with natural flavors as an effort to maintain flavor balance and preserveorters' integrity over time. Additionally, many cafes now use whole bean only for their gourmet coffee varieties - allowing customers even greater control over flavor AND texture while enjoying a great cup of Joe every day!
In 1876, a Frenchman, Auguste Blanqui, started the Café de Paris. This coffee house was known for its high-quality beans and unique customer service. The café continued to serve quality coffee until it closed in 1957.

In 1907, the town was renamed to honor General James A. Garfield, who had been assassinated previous year. The Garfield Presidential Library and Museum is located in Lakewood.
