Kirkland, Washington is home to one of the most significant coffee areas in the United States. The city was founded by George Vancouver in 1792 and has been a major center for coffee commerce ever since. Today, Kirkland is one of the largest coffee markets in North America and its coffee industry is considered to be among the best in the world. The history of Kirkland's coffee industry can be traced back to when British traders first came ashore in what is now Kirkland County. They were looking for new land to purchase and discovered rich resources near present-day Seattle. To help finance their exploration, these traders began selling tea and other goods from their vessels onshore. In 1824, James Kapp bought land around present-day Seattle from Chief Seattle for $5,000. One of his first steps as mayor was to establish a town square at this location where citizens could gather to trade goods and discuss local politics. By 1850, Kapp had built two churches and had developed a population of over 100 people. This growth stopped when gold was found at Stevens Pass in 1857. However, within a few years after that discovery, Kapp had started importing more than 1,500 metric tons of coffee each month from Brazil! This increase began an uninterrupted stream of revenue that allowed him to build another church and expand his business into an empire! During World War II (1939-1945), Kirkland became one of the main centers for Allied supply lines supplying troops fighting on both sides during the war. Throughout this time period, it also became well known for its high quality cup OFE products made from beans picked fresh on site! Today, there are still many businesses operating out Ofe farms throughout central Washington State; however, due to increased competition from international growers (particularly Brazil), Kirkland's Coffee District has seen some modest declines over the past few decades - but it remains one of America's most important wine production areas!

It lies within the Issaquah-Cascade-Washtenaw Valley Statistical Area. The first permanent Europeans to visit what is now Kirkland were fur traders in the early 1800s. In 1853, George Vancouver explored and charted what would become Kirkland Harbor on his HMS "Endeavour". The harbor eventually became a stop on the Seattle– Tacoma Railway. In 1872, lumber baron James Mapes established a sawmill at what is now downtown Kirkland after purchasing land from Squamish chief David Thompson in an auction held at Puyallup Creek Indian Reservation near Olympia. Mapes named his mill "Kirkland", after his birthplace in Scotland (shire). The mill was built on the north side of Issaquah River between present day 1st Ave NE and 2nd Ave NE; it replaced an older gristmill which had been destroyed by fire in 1868. In 1899, a group of businessmen led by entrepreneur Cyrus Kelleher bought land southwest of downtown from Mapes to build what would become Hewlett Packard's headquarters for North America before that company relocated its main office to Austin TX in 1965. In 1970, Microsoft moved its Redmond HQ from Bellevue WA to Kirkland as well - this made it one of only two companies apart from Intel and Boeing not based outside of north America until that point (the other being Abbott Laboratories). The population reached 10,000 by 1990 but growth stopped thereafter due to commuting costs and divestitures by local businesses over high-technology jobs elsewhere in Puget Sound regionalspawning those jobs away with automation or offshoring cheap labor overseas instead over many years culminating with HP closing its factory there more than 20 years ago today leaving only about 100 employees still working there today... Today much like then much employment has gone offshore or automated including many low wage positions making it difficult for locals such as cooks/tenders/shop assistants etc...to make ends meet either through wages or benefits

Kirkland is a small town in Thurston County, Washington. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census. The name means "place of the Kirk people" in the local language. The community was founded in 1887 by John and Anna Kirkpatrick. It is part of theSeattle metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what later became Kirkland was John Kirkpatrick who arrived from New York City on July 10, 1887 with his family and four others. He set up a log cabin on what is now Valentine Road near present-day Lakeview Elementary School. In 1890, he married Anna (née Hildebrand) and moved to what today is the northeast corner of town along Cherry Hill Road. There they raised eight children: James L., Mrs. Clements M., Mrs., Katheryn B., Douglas W., Peggy W.", Eileen A.), and four grandchildren: Patrick J.," Hanna P." & Connor N." In 1898, during the late 1800s there were several gold rushes occurring throughout Northwest America - one near where Kirkland now sits led to numerous discoveries including many prostitutes called “sluts” working nearby settlements such as Seattle which then resulted in an increase of morality among these women which probably helped keep things clean for early settlers like John and Anna Kirkpatrick who were willing to risk everything for their homespun community that would eventually become known as Kirkland
