Kent, Washington is a small town in King County, Washington. The population was 1,926 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley and is bordered by the towns of Tumwater to the north and Lacey to the east. The first European settlers in Kent were Indians who lived near what is now central Kent. The first white person tosettler in Kent was John Stevens, with his family from Rhode Island in 1792. In 1846, James Kintzner arrived from Illinois and founded an agricultural colony called Rice Landing on Wabash Creek northeast of present-day Kent. In 1861, when America seceded from Great Britain, many people moved to Oregon Territory due to political differences over slavery and states' rights. Some of these settlers arrived in what is now centralKent and established farms there. Others came downriver and founded communities such as Poulsbo and Auburn on the lower Mosquito River near modern day Centralia (now Tacoma). When America acquired its independence, many of these farmers decided they wanted their own state rather than become part of new Washington Territory which had been formed from Oregon Territory plus parts of Idaho and Nevada. So on December 12, 1857, a group of farmers led by prosperous landowner Elias Caulkins organized a drive for secession that culminated with a convention at Nisqually (now Olympia) that declared Kent an independent city Limits separate from Washington Territory

Kent, Washington is a small town in the Yakima Valley of northwest Washington. The population was 2,857 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-Tahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Kent was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. In 1854, gold was discovered near the town and development began quickly. By 1870, most of what is now Kent had been created and it became a municipal community with its own government. The townsite remained unincorporated until 1959 when it incorporated as a city with its own charter and mayoralty. Most of what is now Kent was laid out on land that had been donated to farmers by Yakima County in 1859. The town status didn't come until 1961 when voters approved an ordinance designating it as an "urban area." The growth of Kent has been due to its location: just outside Wenatchee and close to both Seattle and Spokane counties, making it easy for people to get around. After World War II, there were increased calls for housing developments in the region soKent's population grew rapidly during the postwar boom years. Today, much of the commercial development in downtown Kent are associated with annexed areas located east of Interstate 5 including Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge and Gig Harbor Naval Air Station; however much activity takes place within downtown which retains its historic focus on commerce along Main Street
The history of Kent, Washington starts with the arrival of Europeans in the area in the early 1800s. The first Europeans to arrive were French traders and missionaries, who founded a small town called Saint John near present-day Kent. The town quickly grew and developed a strong economy based on fishing, logging, and other farming activities. In 1853, the United States acquired Oregon from Mexico and named it after President James K. Polk as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. As part of this treaty, Mexico ceded Oregon to the United States in exchange for land in California. In 1855, Congress passed an act that created what is now Washington County. This act was designed to create new counties as part of a process called “manifest destiny” which saw America expand its boundaries southward at a faster pace than Europe. The county was named after General George Armstrong Custer who had died during the Indian Wars earlier that year. Kent quickly became one of Washington County’s most important towns due to its location at the junction of several major roadways. This made it possible for people from all over western Washington to visit their hometown during various tourist seasons such as Expo 67 or Cascade Festival. In addition, many businesses located in downtown Kent started up due to its strategic location near major highways and railroads. In 1907, voters in Kent approved a referendum asking for annexation into King County (then known as Seattle). After much debate and discussion, Kirkland County was formed from parts of Washington County on December 1st, 1907 under authority granted by state statute §§ 5-8-101(a), (b) & (c). The merger resulted in an increase in growth rates among both communities because Kirkland would have jurisdiction over everything east of Interstate 90 while Washington would have jurisdiction over everything north of Interstate 90. At that time there were only two neighborhoods within King County: Bellevue and Issaquah— neither of which had any residents living within them outside their respective municipalities! Kirkland quickly became one of King County’s leading economic engines with heavy industrial and commercial development along I-90/SR-5 corridor between Bellevue Boulevard/Fremont Way West and SR 520/Pine Street South; areas currently home to some Of Kirkland's largest employers including Boeing Co., Microsoft Corp., Amazon Web Services LLC., Starbucks Coffee Company et al.; also homes to numerous smaller businesses providing services such as lawn care service or dog walking
