In 1917, the Washington Air Force was created as a result of the Treaty of Versailles. The treaty allowed for the stationing of an army of American troops in Europe to help with theRewards for War campaign. In 1919, Congress passed a law that designated Kelso as an airfield for use by the service. On December 12th, 1925, ?the first? Boeing military bomber took off from Kelso AFB and flew over Seattle. It represented the beginning of aerial warfare in America. As aviation became more and more popular, so did airfields like Kelso – providing opportunity for both bombers and fighter planes to fly at high altitudes without coming into contact with other aircraft or ground targets. On July 1st, 1948, Kelso AFB was closed because it no longer could accommodate fighter jets or bombers; it had become too cramped and inconvenient for such a large operation. However, its legacy continues to this day: when US taxpayers fund military actions overseas through Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), they are also supporting what may be one of our country’s most important airports? The Kelso Air Force Base gift history begins in 1948 when the United States Air Force opened its first base in the town of Kelso, Washington. The Base was then known as "Bishop's Field". In 1959, the USAF moved to its current location at Kelso AFB and changed its name to "Kelso Air Force Base". Since 1948, the Kelso AFB gift history has included more than 1,000 gifts from individual members of the USAF community. These gifts have helped support many aspects of life on-base for service members and their families. Some of our most famous airmen and women have come from Kelso AFB - including General Curtis LeMay, First Lady Betty Ford, Captain Chuck Yeager and others.
Kelso is a small town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Kelso is part of the Wenatchee-Everett Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Kelso was John Gooding in 1851. The town was platted in 1884. The post office opened in 1886 and closed in 1957. In 1902, the Seattle & Tacoma Railroad built a line to Kelso from Moses Lake via Winthrop andnewcastle on the Spokane River. This line became known as the "Kelso Branch." During World War II, Kelso was used as an airfield by the United States Air Force 6th Bombardment Group (Heavy). In 1945, it was sold to the Wenatchee-Everett Business District Authority for use as a shopping center and community center. A new school building was dedicated on May 20, 1956; also known as "Kelsovite Day". The original school building burned down on December 22nd of that year with all records destroyed due to fire damage sustained during renovation work that summertime; however, local residents were able to save most of their belongings due to precautions they had taken such as leaving only light bulbs burning inside when not using the building). A new school building was dedicated on July 25th of that year after extensive fundraising efforts by locals and family members of those lost in the oldbuilding fire

Kelso is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 653 at the 2010 census. Kelso is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area. It is also included in the Puget Sound region. At first glance, Kelso appears to be little more than an agricultural community situated along the banks of the Deschutes River. However, over time it has developed into a vibrant and diverse community that offers unique opportunities for education and economic development. In recent decades, Kelso has become known as a destination for tourists seeking its rich history and natural beauty. The town's eclectic mix of architecture and businesses makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in King County. The history of Kelso begins with early settlers who arrived in 1855. Many were farmers who were interested in expanding their holdings into what would later become Kelso Township. By 1870, only a few families remained living within the township boundaries; however, by 1880 nearly all residents had relocated to new homes outside of town limits due to advances in railroad construction and other factors (Lench 1923). In 1888, KING-TV began broadcasts from Kelso when officers from nearby Olympia station used local facilities to simulcast signals on two shortwave radios (Albrecht 1944). This provided important news coverage for rural communities throughout King County during this period (Fowler 1984). With KING-TV’s arrival came increased exposure for local events and people could now communicate with larger distances without fear of censorship or radio interference (Powell 1978). In 1925, a primary school was built onland east of town limits as part of an effort to improve public education opportunities for locals (Hansen 1916). The first students attended school here on September 12thmber 1925(Dutton 1951). After several years of construction and dedication by many members of the community including Mrs John Wirtzfield – daughter of original developer Alder Wirtzfield –the school was completed on October 15th 1926(Lench 1923) . Today’s elementary school serves as both headquarters forKing County Public Schools District #2and home to many historical artifacts from earlier generations such as Mr & Mrs Henson’s Model T Ford which ran aground on Interstate 5 durinng World War II(Goudreau 1976a Figure 1) . From 1925 until 1970 there were no high schools located within city limits; instead students attending either Olympia High School or Westlake High School took courses at Central Pacific Normal School across 4 streets south from downtown Olympia until that institution closed its doors in 1972.(Goudreau 1976b Figure 2) . Although not directly associated with agriculture prior to 1925kelsonians grew up using agriculture as one toolamong manyfor survival during those difficult times(Beach 1955 pgs 9–10)
Kelso was founded on February 3, 1853, by Captain George Kelso and his wife Sophia. The town was named for Captain Kelso because he had the original plat of the town filed with the Federal government. The first post office in Kelso was established on July 1, 1854. The town's first store and flour mill were built in 1855. In 1865, the first railroad track was laid through the town. On October 14, 1868, a school house and a Methodist church were erected in Kelso. In 1870-71, a sawmill and grist mill were built in Kelso. A post office called Kelso was established on December 6th, 1870; it closed on September 15th of that year due to mail delivery difficulties. In 1871-72 an Agricultural Fair took place at Kelso; this fair is only noted as being held here rather than at some other location due to lack of documentation available contemporary thereto
