The Kelso Air Force Base Museum has a long and proud history of deploying air force gifts to its local community. The museum’s first gift was a bomber in 1936.Since that time, the Kelso AFB Museum has donated more than 60 aircraft and missiles, as well as over 1,000 pieces of equipment and memorabilia to various organizations throughout Washington state. One of the most popular gifts from the Air Force is the “Honey Badger” missile. This missile was donated by the Kelso AFB Museum in 1980 in memory of General H.R. McMaster, who had been killed while serving with Operation Desert Storm. The Honey Badger became an icon at Kelso AFB and continues to be used by the military here in Washington state today!

The Kelso-based USAF deployed a gift history in support of the military community on Dec. 12. The event was attended by more than 50 people and featured displays from the detachment's Specialty Store, Air Force Exchange, Chapel and Weapons Storage units.
Kelso is a small town in Clark County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,857 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area. Kelso is located on the east side of Lake Washington and has a large agricultural sector that includes dairy and hay production. The commercial sector includes a few small businesses and two banks. Kelso's ZIP code 98260 is home to one of the largest wineries in Western Washington, Mount Baker Winery. The land where Kelso now stands was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. The first European to arrive in what is now Kelso was John Stevens who built his log cabin in 1792 on land he had acquired from Chief Sealthahegonwahere (Creek), one of the earliest white settlers in what would become Thurston County, which included present-day Kelso Township, during British Columbia’s initial occupation of North America. In 1881, when Spokane County was created from parts of Skagit and King counties, Kelso became part of it as well as Kittitas County on its eastern border. In 1907 Kittitas moved its county seat from Yelm to Tacoma so that it could be closer to downtown Seattle; Kelso followed suit two years later (though its courthouse still sits at 6th Avenue NE). Today many people think that when Kittitas moved their county seat—a decision made under pressure from then-Gov. Alexander Graham Bell—Kelson should also have followed suit because much of what makes up today’s Kittitas Valley were already here before Kittitas did: name recognition among Yakima Nation residents helped keep things Hohokam along Highway 99B close for centuries after they left Puget Sound; and numerous farms still stand today near Yelm despite having been abandoned for decades or even centuries due largely to lack of interest by developers or NPS visitors alike (the last being Mount Baker Winery). Indeed there are several old Deering logs still standing around town proper that date back over 100 years! Population growth rates vary greatly throughout most of Thurston County; while some villages do experience modest increases due to annexation bonuses offered by local governments following recent population growth trends elsewhere within their jurisdictions – like Puyallup– nearly all other villages experienced no increase whatsoever between 2000 and 2010 according to US Census data analyzed through our National Demographic Survey project called “What’s New in Rural America?” – instead all but 1 out 5 village populations grew more rapidly than surrounding rural areas between 2000 and 2010! This pattern can be seen across communities big & small both inside & outside metropolitan areas: only 2% + Across states studied occurred within any single incorporated communityodiacally – meaning those outside urban cores & suburbs essentially continued seeing stagnation or even decreases (-0% per year) when compared against adjacent rural areas ≥ , regardless how populous such rural core may be! This slowdown can be explained partially by suburbanization/urbanization trends within larger cities (& suburbs) themselves which increasingly rely on government services/infrastructure development beyond their borders while smaller municipalities suffer without these same amenities& support systems….. Nevertheless given this overall trend we must ask ourselves whether annexations or continue increasing suburbanization altogether – if indeed anything-| might not better align with long term sustainability goals set for rural America? Even though annexations have led to increased population density throughout much rural AMERICA (& adjacent coasts), we continue[!]to see rates below rest permission granted thru decennial census updates thru 1990….. Today we live [in]located very close yetseparate townships scattered throughout Thurston co., WA…. Most people hereabouts know each other pretty well although there are occasional misunderstandings about why certain people move hereabouts…… To put it another way: most locals hereabouts share quite a bit about their background yet maintain considerable cultural isolation sinceottage separates us pretty sharply from each other.– From an interview with resident Randy Wehner conducted October 15th 2013
The United States Air Force deployed a number of gift baskets to troops in Afghanistan in 2009. Each basket had a specific purpose and included items such as radios, books, clothes, and snacks. Gifts that were sent to soldiers in Afghanistan ranged from small token items like candy bars or chocolates to larger items like an airplane ticket or refrigerator. The deployment was part of the military's effort to show support for the troops and make sure that they were safe and comfortable during their time in country.
The USAF deployed gift history in 1946 as part of the air force's celebration of its centennial. The Air Force's Centennial Committee had decided to include a gift history section in the USAF History Department Gazette, and SSgt. Robert A. Smith was appointed editor-in-chief. The first issue of the Gazette contained an article about how donations from members were being used to support military operations around the world. In 1949, the Air Force placed a plaque at Wright-Patterson AFB honoring those who have given their time and money to help make that facility one of America's premiere research institutions. That year also saw the dedication of Headquarters Squadron Command Post (HSCP) at Lackland AFB, TX - one of only two dedicated USAF installation clubs in existence at that time. In 1961, Headquarters Squadron Command Post (HSCP) moved from Seymour Johnson AFB, NC to Whiteman AFB, MO where it remains today as one of service's most distinguished installations. In 1976, Headquarters SquadronCommand Post (HSCP) relocated yet again - this time from Offutt AFB, NE to Maxwell AFB, AL where it remains today as one of service's most distinguished installations ever erected by the USAF. Since then SSgt Robert A Smith has served as Editor-in-Chief for both issues of "Air Force Gift History" and continues his tradition today!
Kelso is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,574 at the 2010 census. Kelso is located on the Eastern shore of Puget Sound and contains part of the University of Washington campus. The first permanent settler in what is now Kelso was George Stephenson, who arrived in 1851 as an employee of the Portofino Company. In 1860, he bought land from John Denny and built a log cabin on it which became his home until his death in 1885. He bequeathed to his nephew James Stephenson the land that became Kelso Park. Kelso Post Office opened in 1897 and closed in 1957; its last letter carrier was Mrs. Hester Skeltonose. In 1907, Jens Jensen , soon after moving to Seattle from Tacoma, organized a group of men who would purchase all block lots east of Pioneer Road for $1 each and build themselves homes thereon. This community came to be known as "Jensen's Landing". By 1912 they had expanded into backyards up to 4 feet wide and were using hogsheads (round baskets) made from saplings to carry goods to market instead of wagons or carts which took days or weeks to arrive at their destination because they were unloaded at other places along the way such as Bainbridge Island . They also started construction on their first schoolhouse which stood until 1951 when it burned down due to faulty wiring! The town hall still stands today adjacent to Japanese American Internment Camps during World War II where many excellent students originated including future Olympians Usain Bolt and Shawn Johnson .
