The history of the Coast Guard in Issaquah, Washington begins with their establishment in 1879. The original Coast Guard Station was located on the present-day site of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. It was here that the first coast guard officers were hired and began their service to protect our coastline. In 1903, the station moved to its current location on Queen Anne Island, and continued to grow in power over the years. In 1943, during World War II, the Coast Guard became a part of United States Navy under the command of Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet. This move provided new opportunities for training and development for both services together. The Coast Guard also played an important role during Operation Downfall which led to Japan’s surrender. Today, we continue to operate as a part of United States Navy and remain dedicated to ensuring maritime safety across our waters. Issaquah is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 21,471 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of King County. Issaquah's history goes back to 1853 when it was laid out as part of the Whitman Mission area by Chief Seattle and his party. The first permanent settler arrived in 1858 and named it after Issaquah Creek which flowed through that area. In 1870, a post office was established here and the town gradually grew until it had a population of over 100 residents in 1907. In 1916, Issaquah became an incorporated municipality with its own government and began to develop into a major cultural center for the region. Today, Issaquah remains one of Washington's most vibrant cities with rich cultural heritage dating back to its early days as an agricultural community. The largest employer in town is Microsoft which has its headquarters in downtown Issaquah and employs over 17,000 people there full-time or part-time. The city ofIssaquah grew rapidly during World War II with its manufacture of naval munitions and other defense items helping to contribute $10 million to its economy within three years of Pearl Harbor while also creating over 100 local jobs directly or indirectly related to wartime production such as stores, factories and service stations
