The history of the Coast Guard in Ferndale, Washington goes back to 1912 when local residents donated money to start a coast guard station. The first Coast Guard post in Ferndale was built on the property of the now defunct Pacific Northwest Railway. In 1936, the Coast Guard Station moved to its current location on First Street and Fort Vancouver Drive. In 1957, the US Coast Guard merged with other government agencies to form the Department of Homeland Security. As part of this organizational change, all active duty Coast Guards were consolidated into DHS Headquarters located at 555 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington D.C. The headquarters building still serves as the home for both DHS’s National Command Center (NCCC) and Offices of Investigations and Detection (OIDS). Since its inception, Ferndale’s Coast Guard has been an important player in helping protect our coastline and waterways from dangers such as piracy, cocaine trafficking and methamphetamine abuse. In recent years, we have also seen increased activity related to maritime terrorism threats such as ISIS crossings into Europe through Turkish waters. Ferndale is a small town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,702 at the 2010 census. Ferndale is located on the banks of the Multnomah River and it has a rich history dating back to 1872 when entrepreneur George A. Smith founded the town on land he had purchased from Chief Joseph. Today, Ferndale is an important cultural and commercial center for eastern Oregon and western Washington County. It features a variety of art galleries, stores, restaurants, bars and nightlife options. Ferndale also home to the Multnomah Falls National Recreation Area which offers hiking trails, swimming and fishing opportunities as well as picnic areas and Devil's Den State Park which features hikes including a climb up Mount Hood along with views of the Columbia River Gorge.

Ferndale was founded on the banks of the Columbia River in 1855 by General James K. Polk and his wife, Julia Child. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location at a crossroads for wagon traffic between Oregon and California. By 1910, Ferndale had a population of over 100,000 residents and was one of the largest cities in Western Washington. In 1975, Ferndale became an incorporated city and has since grown into a major cultural and commercial center in Northwest Washington. The history of Ferndale began with General James K. Polk's arrival in 1855 as president of the United States. He decided to establish a new capital in western Washington after much deliberation among his cabinet members and military commanders who were fighting Mexico City at that time. After consulting with local farmers, Polk selected the site on thebanks oftheColumbia River for his new capital because it was close to both Oregon and California borders, providing easy access for goods brought overland from those states. The original town site consisted only of three blocks long but it soon grew into a busy commercial center with cotton gins, flour mills, sawmills, warehouses, schools and other public buildings. During the early years of Ferndale's growth there were few dwellings or businesses aside from general storekeepers and small farmers who sold their products along what is now First Street North. There were also few professional people living here as most jobs were located outside of town along wagon roads driving eastward out Of Canada until 1861 when fernderdale received its first post office which opened on July 1st just north of present day Second Avenue South (now Highway 99). Howeverferndales heavy reliance on wagons as its main form of transportation limited its ability to become an important regional center like Portland or Seattle which started to emerge during this period due to advances in transportation methods such as steamboats/railroads which made crossing Lake Superior easier than ever before allowing goods to be transported more quickly from east-to-west across Asia bypassing China altogether! In 1890 however when fernderdale annexed partof neighbouring Lynden Heights developmentseriously ill-equipped adriftinthe Great Lakes region following Russias annexationoftheUkrainianregionitwas apparentthatitherSeattleorPortlandwouldsoonbecomemajorcitiesdueontheswimminglakerequiringterribleferrieseverydaytowardsthemandbeing confinedonlytowardsEdmontonasthedistrictofGarlandwhereumberouscarloadsofsteamboatsdepartedfordowntownPortlandonweekendsduringSummertime! Asa resultofthisstreetaddresschangeFerndalebecame eligibleforits owncityhallwhichopenedinJanuary1903andservedas ablocketedCity HallDistrictuntil1909whenitwasdemotedtocityhallaftertheGreatLakes flooddamage blockedherportals!)Despitethis setbackcity hall continuedtocommunicatewithfernderdalethroughmailuntil1 January 1911 when her last post office closed! During this time ferlderdalians produced many items such as jeeps Detroit Auto Company offered free partsACROSS AMERICA TO SUPPORT THE WAR effort; Tires Catholic Bishop announced plans tor buildStrasbourg Cathedral using $10 million raised from tax dollars pledged by parishioners; Ford Motor Company donated two models Lincoln Continental coupes for war bond drives; Quaker Oats donated boxesfulofflourandsweetenercalledPecan Pie; laundry detergent manufacturer Wacoal contributed five cars each filled with clean clothes destined for soldiers overseas while General Motors donated 10 trucks equipped with Indiana gas engines used by American forces operating behind enemy lines;; Singer Sewing Machine Co donated 400 machines Singer sewing machines essential for wartime production;; AEC Corporation contributed four buses AEC Corporation served as transport services running between various factories within city limits." When America entered World War II things changed radically: For one thing production moved inland away from resources available near Seattle so that lessened reliance on waterbased equipment necessitating greater use of airfields within Western Washington; secondFactory production shifted toward making tanks,, planes,, artillery etc.; Third Tool & Manufacturing created tool manufacturing divisions specifically devotedto aircraft construction (production started at Cold Springs Arsenal); Finally Standard Oil took over Jardine Ironworks producing tools needed for aircraft manufacture although Jardine would continue operations until 1958 producing saltpeter (used especially in fertilizer) until that company went bankrupt.) All these changes led directly to increased demand for housing units resulting not just in rising prices but also increased density creating today’s biggest single source OF job creation downtown!"
