The Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) maintains a Navy Deployed Gift History Collection in Federal Way, Washington. The collection contains gifts given to the United States Naval Forces Internationaljen by Sailors and Marines who have served in the Navy. This collection is especially important because it includes gifts that were sent as part of military missions or projects around the world. In 1917, Congress created the Naval Forces Internationaljen to provide for an international armada of submarines and destroyers. The goal was to prevent any European power from building a navy that could challenge America's naval supremacy. In 1922, Congress passed an act that authorized the Secretary of War to send $5 million tothe navies of Great Britain, France, Italy, Japan, and China for submarine research and development. This money was used to develop new submarines and torpedoes designed specifically for use against American warships. In 1945, when Japan surrendered unconditionally at World War II's end, the United States had lost most of its Pacific Fleet owing to bombardments during World War II. The Roosevelt Administration decided that it would be better if Japan kept some ships in port so they could serve as training vessels for future Japanese Navy officers. One such ship was the USS Nagato (Kanagawa-class). The Nagato received a gift from Prime Minister Fumimaro Kono on December 1st 1945 while she lay at Yokosuka docks waiting for her next mission: pick up American prisoners of war being transported back home after their captivity in Korea had ended. Kono also presented Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto with a control rod transmitter device used by Japanese submarines in order to track Allied submarines movements over long distances

The history of navy deployed gift giving is a long and winding one. From the simple act of sending someone a present through to more complex gifts such as tickets to sporting events or travel, there has been something for everyone in navy deployments. One of the earliest examples of navy gift giving was during World War I when sailors sent their friends and family members small parcels filled with food, cigarettes and other basics. Over time, the tradition of sending a gift from sea to land grew even stronger. During World War II, sailor's networks became essential for exchanging information about shipping routes and battle plans. As gifts were exchanged between friends on both sides of the war, it was clear that naval forces were displaying an increasing level of friendship and support. This increased demand for military-grade products led to the development of Navy Exchange Service (NES). NES allowed servicemen and women from ashore to purchase items from naval stores in exchange for goods they would need in their combat roles. With advances in technology and communication, Naval Sea Systems Command has become one of the largest recipients of gifts from civilians worldwide. Gifts have included everything from radios to boats. In recent years, Naval Sea Systems Command has also become involved in philanthropy by providing donated treasures - such as submarines - to museums around the world who display them as part of their exhibitions. Each Christmas season sees different donations being made available through its "Gift shop" website which allows civilians on shore access to donate unwanted items from local businesses or homes
The navy deployed gift history dating back to the late 1800s. The first deployments took place during World War I and were as a result of naval intelligence gathering. The Federal Way area of Washington was originally given to the United States by the Treaty of Paris in 1849. The land that now makes up Federal Way was first inhabited by the Gigas and Lenapes, who were forced out of their traditional home in eastern Washington by European settlers. The area that is now Federal Way was originally part of what is now Oregon. When the United States acquired Oregon from France in 1859, it also gained a large slice of what is now Federal Way. The area became an important hub for trade and transportation during the early years of American development. In 1881, the main road between Seattle and Portland was built throughFederal Way. This road made Federal Way an important center for commerce and culture, and helped to spur the growth of both cities. In 1921, Congress passed a bill giving Washington statehood. This act created new boundaries for Washington, including parts of today’s Federal Way and Bellevue counties. The addition of these counties caused some controversy because they would have had more direct control over how their residents voted than other areas within the state. However, as time passed andWashington grew more populous, it became increasingly clear that these new boundaries were necessary to ensure equal representation for all Districts within the state. In 1975, another bill granted full statehood to Washington, making it oneof America’s fifty states. Today,FederalWay enjoys a rich history which has been helped by its location on Puget Sound – one of North America’s most popular tourist destinations – as well as its many cultural attractions such as universities and galleries
The Federal Way area is a tributary of the Sammamish River. In 1853, the U.S. government created the town of Federal Way to serve as the county seat for Kitsap County. The town was moved to its present site in 1872 when King County was created and Federal Way became a part of it. The townspeople donated land for a school, which opened in 1876. The first post office opened in Federal Way on December 12, 1875.
