Enumclaw is a small town in Washington state, United States. The population was 513 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-based rural area that surrounds Cheney. The name comes from the local Enumclaw cedar tree which grows abundantly and provides strong timber for buildings and furniture. The first white residents of Enumclaw were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1854. They built a log cabin on the east side of Clearwater Creek, about two miles north of present-day Enumclaw. A year later, they erected a larger cabin on land adjacent to what is now State Route 20. This early settlement was known as "Emmalax", meaning "site of fishing." In 1857, white settlers James Waddell and Samuel Crouse moved into what is now Ensley Township and began to build Log Cabin No. 2 on their farm northeast of present-day Ensley Park. They named their settlement after John Emmalax, an American captain who had been killed during the Mexican–American War while serving as colonel in the Confederate army under General Robert E Lee. In 1859, when US Senator George Christopher (D) visited Wenatchee he decided to establish a town in Wenatchee Valley specifically for Congregationalists because they needed more space than they could find elsewhere in the valley due to rapid population growth among other denominations at that time. On November 3, 1860, Christopher submitted his report on Capitol Hill recommending that Congress approve An act establishing Wenatchee County with its seat at Wenatchee and seven towns within it: Emmalax (now Enumclaw), North Bend, Centralia (now Centralia Heights), Moses Lake, Pullman, East Wenatchee (now East Wenatchee Landing), and Whitefish Bay (Now Yakima). On January 10th 1861; Territorial Legislature ratifiedChristopher's bill providing for county government with seven towns viz.: Emmalax(Enumclaw), North Bend(Centralia Heights), Moses Lake(Pullman), East Wenatchee(Yakima), Whitefish Bay(Now Yakima). Congregationalists quickly became dominant in central Washington due to their extensive missionary work throughout much of this region which led to increased religious diversity among whites living there at that time as well as increased economic activity due to lumbering being one major industry contributing significantly to growth during these years

Enumclaw is a small town in the state of Washington, located about 25 miles north of Seattle. The population was 5,856 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1847 by Russian immigrants who arrived on the ship "Rusudnyy" from Siberia. The name is derived from the Alaskan word enuma, meaning "beloved." The first post office in Enumclaw opened in 1854. In 1865, the community became part of King County and was incorporated as a village. In 1941, during World War II, Enumclaw's Japanese-American residents were incarcerated at Topaz Camp near Auburn. After the war, they returned to their homes and businesses but were not allowed to vote or hold public office until 1951. In 1984, Enumclaw joined forces with other nearby communities to form the Confederated Tribes of North Puget Sound (CTNS). With its membership now totaling over 100 tribes operating under one roof, Enumclaw has become an important cultural and economic center for many tribal members throughout western Washington. Today, Enumclaw remains a vibrant community with strong ties to its rural roots and Native American heritage; its restaurants offer unique local dishes and attractions that draw visitors from all over Northwest Indiana and up into Microsoft’s Redmond campus each fall for ALTECHfest events.
The Enumclaw Indian Reservation was located in the Seattle area, and was established in 1855. The reservation covered an area of 6,500 acres. In 1907, it was merged with the neighbouring Snoqualmie Indian Reserve.
