In 1907-08, when construction began on Interstate 5 through Kitsap County (now known as I-5),Edmonds saw its biggest economic boom yet as people drove down main Street towards the new highway just out of town! Over time however the economy has changed dramatically with more employment data being generated outside of town which has sent downtown values tumbling; however many businesses remain open despite this trend., edmondians have persevered though tough times The current incarnation of Edmonds begins around 1870 when James Haggerty purchased 640 acres north of present day downtown along Witham Creek; he renamed it "Haggerty's Ranch". Haggerty ran a ranch until his death in 1915 leaving his land belonging mostly to local families until it passed onto other hands again starting about 1950s until finally becoming available for development by Kitsap County government in 1978 resulting today’s downtown area The original Main Street runs approximately northeast-southwest direction between present day First Avenue (northwest corner)and Schroeder Way (southwest corner). Downtown streets are numbered 2nd Ave NW – 4th Ave NE – 6th Ave SW – 8th Ave SE – 10th Ave NW then North Dakota Avenue becomes Main Street again eventually terminating at Elliott Bay Drive where I-5 meets shoreline Downtown buildings are generally multi-story brick structures dating back before 1900 while newer additions include such modern amenities as restaurants/bars/stores etc.—in short much like any other major American city circa 1910 during peak tourist season

Edmonds, Washington is a census-designated place in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma Metropolitan Area. The name "Edmonds" derives from the name of an early settler, James Edward Edmonds. He and his wife came to Puget Sound in 1847 and platted what is now Edmonds on November 15, 1851 as a town on land they had bought from the Umpqua Tribe. They named it after their friend and business partner, George Clements Edmonds (1801-1872), who had also moved to Puget Sound in 1847. In 1860, James Edward's son John W EDMUNDS took over management of the town; he served until 1864 when he sold refrigerators to Major Edwin Everett Greenough of Tacoma. In 1907 residents met to discuss forming a new city government within their town limits – this idea was abandoned when no one wanted to move away from their current home with good schools and ample businesses. On December 3rd 1907 voters passed a charter amendment creating the City of Edmonds; Mayor J H ELLIOTT served for four years before being replaced by First Vice Mayor F S MASON on May 6th 1912 due to term Limits set by the state legislature at that time. On January 1st 1915 Councilmember A L PEREZ becamemayor after successful run for office against incumbent Mason On June 12th 1916 councilmembers decided not to renew Perez's contract because he could not keep up with increasing expenses caused by World War I which was starting then as well as increased taxes brought about by war efforts In 1923 commissioners started considering annexation by King County but this proposal did not gain traction so consolidation with Everett ended in 1925
