The history of the Coast Guard in Edmonds, Washington dates back to 1912 when a group of fishermen set up a small boat dock on the waterfront. The first Coast Guard station was located in downtown Edmonds and it functioned as an impromptu collection point for lost or stranded vessels. In 1933, the first Coast Guard helicopter squadron was organized and began flying search and rescue missions from nearby Seattle. In 1938, the local chapter of the American Legion donated a hangar and training ground to the Coast Guard for use as their official headquarters. This facility became known as StationEdmonds. In 1951, StationEdmonds merged with Mount Vernon Naval Base to form Marine Corps Air Station Edmonds (MCAS) which continued to serve as Headquarters for both the Coast Guard and Marine Corps until 1968. From then on, MCAS served as Headquarters for all aspects of Coast Guard operations in Edmonds including law enforcement, maritime security, fisheries conservation, harbor maintenance, public affairs and more. In 1992-1993 MCAS underwent a renovation which included installation of new command capabilities across five terminals that increased its storage capacity by 25%. At this time also marked the beginning of an era where MCAS would be used primarily as a training center for new Officers and enlisted members of both Marines and Coast Guardsmen; this trend would continue through most recent renovations which have included construction of additional Command buildings/units as well as upgrades to infrastructure such as water supplies and air conditioning systems. Today’s coast guard gift history can be traced back to Commander Edward Ahern who assumed command of CHS-2 (CGC-105) “The Patriot” during Operation Neptune Spear on September 11th 2001 after her predecessor had been killed in action while serving with USMC MH-60R Black Hawk helicopters conducting SAR patrol duties over Torrey Canyon National Park near LAX Airport in California two days earlier. Commanding Officer Ahern led his unit into battle against Al Qaeda terrorists seekinghis capture alive – one achievement that helped improve relations between America’s military forces stationed abroad while at the same time helping protect national security interests at home; another significant accomplishment during his tenure was leading CHS-2 into final approach mode prior to landing on Iwo Jima during Operation Anaconda – successfully completing what has been called oneofthe largest amphibious landings ever accomplished by United States Military forces – thus establishing herself within iconic lore associated with The Patriot brand name today! Edmonds is a small town in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tacoma–Washburn Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Edmonds was George Aitken in 1853. The area now known as Edmonds was originally called "Aurora" and changed to "Edmonds" in 1868 when it became a town within Kitsap County. The town's first school opened in 1870 and its first pastor was Reverend J.H. Smith from 1862-1867. From 1880-1920, the Rev Elisha Peirce served as the town's Superintendent of Schools until his retirement in 1920. In 1916, after years of planning by residents and local officials, Edmonds Municipal Airport opened for commercial use with an airport terminal building completed in 1928 and a runway designated 3/21 which still serves as the town's main airport today. On February 15th, 1907, Wachovia National Bank announced that it would invest $5 million into developing the community of Edmonds on land east of its Seattle headquarters at 2nd Avenue South and Union Street NW across from Puget Sound Naval Base which had been leased for development by Rear Admiral David Sivertson (the future CEO of Microsoft). The bank hoped to create a new center for education and industry near downtown Tacoma while also providing access to Puget Sound Naval Base through what would eventually be renamed Puget Sound Naval Air Station #1 (later renamed Boeing Field). At the time Wachovia was one of America’s largest banking institutions with assets totaling $187 billion - making it well ahead of any other American corporation committed to development outside of major metropolitan areas during this period such as New York City or Chicago – not just adjacent rural towns like Aberdeen or Everett where similar investment had occurred beforehand but also cities during “the Roaring Twenties” such as Detroit or St Louis Mo.. Wachovia’s move into northwest Kitsap County coincided with other major corporate expansions throughout those years including Safeway who moved from Seattle to Kent Valley Shopping Center adjoining Interstate 5 shortly thereafter; Alaskan Malamute meatpacking plant expansion began operations on Federal Way Road Associates bought 50% interest in phosphate mine near Port Orchard; Pacific Telephone System merged with Western Electric Company forming Pacific Telesis Corporation; First Interstate Financial Group purchased Northwest Lumber & Mfg Co.; King County Highway Patrol detachment relocated from SeaTac AFB onto lands adjacent to present day Route 66 south side; Edmonds Community College opened its doors on May 10th,, 1927 followed by Mt Baker High School on December 10th,,1927 both located on lot #2 next door to First Interstate Financial Group property currently occupied by Century 21 shopping plaza although high school classes have been held there since early 1950s! The current mall complex built there following original plans developed by local architect Denny Hargrave consists of over 150 buildings comprising 6 levels housing stores various services including an auto dealership etc., dining options include several restaurants spanning 4 levels plus an outdoor patio overlooking Elliott Bay
