Since then, other USAF gifts have been given to the city such as two KC-135 Stratotankers (the first being given in 1992) and a Group 29 E-3 Sentry AWACS helicopter which arrived in 2003 and is currently used for public affairs work with Boeing Co.'s Everett facilities. These donations have helped make Edmonds one of the most vibrant communities within the Washington State aerospace industry, home to some of America's largest aircraft manufacturing plants and research laboratories across a wide range of industries including defense, aviation and technology companies
Edmonds, Washington is a small town located in the state of Washington. The population was 1,916 at the 2010 census. The name "Edmonds" comes from the phrase "the edge of Puget Sound," and it refers to its location on the eastern side of Puget Sound. The town is considered an agricultural center due to its rich soil and fertile ground. The economy in Edmonds is based on agriculture, trade, and services. There are also a few small businesses that provide local services such as plumbing and home repairs. The community was founded in 1887 by farmers who came from British Columbia. The first store in Edmonds was built on Federal Street. At that time, there were only two schools in the town- one for boys and one for girls. Today, there are five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school within the town limits. In addition to these public schools, there are private schools which serve children from Edmonds Township (east of the town) as well as neighboring townships. There are several historical landmarks within Edmonds including: Mount Baker Ski Resort which opened in 1946; Pioneer Cemetery which was established in 1911; Driggs School which served as a training school for firefighters during World War II; and Kettle Ridge Park which has been used for swimming since 1923
