Covington is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 690 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Everett, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town's ZIP code is 98012. The first settlers in Covington were George and Martha Hargrave who arrived in 1847. They were the parents of the prominent lawyer and politician Lewis Hargrave. In 1871, Covington incorporated as a village under the name "Bellevue". From 1889 until 1907, Covington had its own post office which was located downtown on Main Street between Second and Third Streets. On July 1 1907, Bellevue merged with Covington to form one larger municipality. The original white schoolhouse still stands in downtown Covington today (now used as an event space). The building served as the town's high school from 1927 to 1957 before being replaced by what is now Everett High School across First Avenue from downtown. In 1957 it became part of Everett Public Schools when that community consolidated with Bellevue-Everett. In 1984, the town voted to annex neighboring rural communities of Unthank and Snohomish Township because they failed to provide enough services within their boundaries for their own residents.
