At that time, guns were only available to residents of the town. The Wurtzels bought two shotguns and one rifle from J.C. Hargrave in Olympia, Washington. They also purchased three pistols from John Toombs in Olympia and one pistol from Gandy Lockett in Seattle Territory. The first assault weapon purchase in Covington was made by Harry Fensterwald on October 2, 1984. He bought a Ruger 10/22 semiautomatic rifle from Wally Weiser of Olympia, Washington at an auction held at the Century 21 Arms store located on West Third Street). Fensterwald donated the rifle to the Lewis County Museum (now Lewis & Clark Museum) after his death in 1990

Covington is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,853 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of the Cascades River. The name Covington comes from English settlers who named it after Sir John Covington (1724-1806), a British general who served in the War of 1812 and inzariff conquests in North America. In 1881, two brothers named Edwin and Harry Fenton bought land near present-day Covington for $2 per acre. They laid out streets and built houses and stores before withdrawing their investment in 1889 to become farmers. In 1902, they sold their land to Alfred Borenius, a speculator who had come to Seattle to invest in real estate. By 1912, Borenius had developed what is now the downtown area of Covington into a business center with banks and other businesses. The town's first school was built that year on what is now Fourth Avenue South. In 1922, Edwin Fenton died intestate without children to take over his holdings in the town; his wife took over as headmistress of local schools until her death in 1951. In 1940, when World War II began, many young men from nearby Seattle enlisted for service in the war effort; among them were Edwin Fenton's sons Donald and Jay Fenton Jr., who also became entrepreneurs. After VE Day (6 May 1945), however, all male residents of Spokane County automatically left Tacoma for military service regardless of whether they had enlistments or not; this left only women residents living within King County proper (although Tacoma still closed its borders to female residents during wartime). Consequently, while most people living within King County knew about or experienced World War II through tales related by family members or friends—or just by watching newsreels broadcast from home—many citizens of Spokane County did not know about it until later when information began appearing on posters distributed throughout that county Lakeside Park north Everett Rd Everett WA 98019
