The Camas Coast Guard was founded in 1917 as the Pacific Coast Guard. It became a part of the United States Coast Guard on November 3, 1947. The Coast Guard’s mission is to promote coastal security and protect maritime interests along the Pacific Northwest coast. In 2016, the Camas Coast Guard responded to 24 incidents, including 8 accidents, making it one of the most active units on the coast. Since its founding, the Camas Coast Guard has been awarded numerous awards for excellence in service. These include: - National Medal of Technology - Superior Service Award - Order of Merit - Commendation from President Obama - two Presidential Unit Citations

Camas, Washington is a town in Walla Walla County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,422 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Walla Walla County. The name "Camas" comes from the Chinook word kamas meaning "rocky place." The first post office and school were established in 1847, and the town was platted in 1851. Camas quickly became a logging and farming community with a small railroad serving as its main artery. In 1905, Camas voters approved an $8 million bond issue to improve roads and bridges within the community as well as create new public works programs local businesses could use for self-promotion. By 1930, Camas had developed into one of the most suburban communities in Western Washington. During World War II, Camas saw heavy bombing raids by Japanese planes which caused extensive damage to infrastructure including many homes but no loss of life or destruction beyond that experienced by other towns in the area during that conflict. In recent years Camas has become increasingly known for its agriculture industry with wine production becoming more prominent among them over recent years; however some residents continue to reside there while working elsewhere in rural Walla Walla County or outside of WA state altogether due to strong connections to those industries here locally (in particular irrigation). As such it remains a largely agricultural community with few non-agricultural residents despite growing evidence of an increasing number of support services being offered for small business owners/workers who do not rely on farming alone for their income (e.g., health care).
The United States Coast Guard was established on May 15, 1790 by Governor Thomas Jefferson. The first U.S. coast guard vessel was the HMS Pembroke which was launched on October 3, 1790. The first U.S. Coast Guard station was at Point Lookout in Maine and the first cutter, USS Constitution, was built in 1802. In 1825, the USGC assumed control of all merchant marine vessels operating along the Northeast U.S coastline from New York to Florida and Puerto Rico and also began patrols adjacent to shorelines against piracy and smuggling operations. In 1916, the Coast Guard became a Federal agency with a single director as head of both episcopal district forces (the District of Columbia Force) and a National Headquarters detachment at Fort Worth Texas under Chief Counselor Edward Condon who played an important role in developing many law enforcement tactics including undercover operations using informants called “citizen” detectives or “coast watchmen” which were eventually replaced by more formalized police functions during World War II when executive authority for homeland security shifted from Congress to President Franklin D Roosevelt’s Department of Justice Since its inception, the Coast Guard has developed into one of America’s most versatile military services with responsibilities that range from Search and Rescue Operations ashore to Marine mammal protection offshore; providing coastal defense; disaster relief; public safety; maritime transportation; fisheries patrol; beach surveillance or law-enforcement activity aboard naval ships while they are underway or while anchored off shore As part of president George W Bush Administration's efforts to improve homeland security through increased use of technology across DOD agencies including the development of new information technology programs such as facial recognition software for federal employees which will be placed into use at various DOD installations throughout our Nation Homeland Security is also being addressed through creation of a National Cybersecurity Hub within DHS with separate budget lines for information technology needs associated therewith . . . Camas was founded by Juan Manuel de Ayala in 1792. The town was named after the camas tree, which is a type of cedar. In 1851, the town became part of the United States and it has since been an important agricultural center and meeting place for Washington farmers. Camas post office was established in 1853. The towns rich history is detailed in local newspapers and oral histories from residents who have lived here over time. For example, one resident recalls that the first store in Camas was called the "Alamo" because it had a fortified door that could only be opened with a key made out ofcamas wood. The store continued to operate until 1914 when it burned down. Another oral history remembers that there were three churches in Camas at one point- two Congregational and one Protestant- but both denominations went bankrupt around 1915 or 1916. One account also claims that there were no schools or even plumbing until about 1930 when a schoolhouse was built on top of an old sawmill ruins.- Today,Camas features several small businesses including a grocery store, mechanic shop, bakery, taproom, gas station and more.- CAMAS HISTORY: Cams’ rich history can be found in local newspapers as well as oral histories from residents who have lived here over time The early settlers to Camas were Juan Manuel de Ayala and his wife María de la Concepción Costilla y Linares (née García). They came to California with their families in 1792 on USS San Francisco under Captains Doniphan and Mendoza. After arriving they erected wagons at what is now known as Paseo del Rio Viejo before moving into what is now downtown Camas on land owned by José Antonio Ríos y Ulloa . On March 2nd , 1795 Juan Manuel de Ayala received patent for 640 acres (2 km²) of land east of present day Interstate 5 between Highway 99E & Highway 207B . This would become known asAyala Rancho which later served as part of Camus Townsite In 1851, during Oregon Territory's admission into the United States,Camus became part of Washington Territory following approval by Congress on July 4th . It remained an agricultural center with large herds of camas grazing near present day highways #99E & #207B until 1933 when entire herd mustered out due to World War II shortages
The Camas area was first settled by the Salish people in the late 18th century. In 1854, gold was discovered in the area and began to be mined, leading to a rapid population growth. The Camas School District was established in 1888 and served the entire village of Camas until 1954. In 1955, the district was transferred to King County and became part of the new county. In 1959, a dam was built on South Lynden Creek and began impacting water quality in the village of Camas. This led to a community wide protest against the dam and its impact on their water supply. The protest eventually turned into a riot when police were called to control crowds that had gathered around the dam.
