There is no doubt that the coffee industry in Bonney Lake, Washington has a long and proud history. The town was founded by John Wesley Coulter in 1867 as a small farming community on the banks of the Cascades. Coulter started out growing coffee beans himself and selling them from his home. By the early 20th century, Bonney Lake had become one of the most important coffee processing centers in western Washington. The first commercially processed coffee was grown in Bonney Lake by Harry Godfrey and Sons in 1907. At this time, coffee was still sold fresh from the bean rather than processed through a process known as roasting or grinding. In 1912, Harry Godfrey became the first person to dry roast coffeebeans for sale to consumers. AsBonney Lake transitioned from an agricultural into a manufacturing center during World War II, its caffeine production skyrocketed. Coffee beans were roasted at several large factories throughout Northwest Washington including Blanchard’s Coffee Company (now part of Starbucks), Pacific Coffee Corporation, Seattle-based National Coffee Co., and Willamette Valley Roasters Inc.. During World War II, many local people lost their jobs because of rationing but they quickly got back into business thanks to continued production at these companies. By 1957, Bonney Lake had become one of the largest commercial processors of ground coffee in North America with over 1 million pounds processed annually. The following year saw another milestone when it was announced that American Barista Association (ABA) member Pacific Coffee Corporation would be supplying ground coffees for use at Anheuser Busch Brewery’s St Louis brewery under a exclusive agreement dating back to 1954. This partnership helped bring world-renowned brands like AnheuserBusch beer and PepsiCo soft drinks to BonneyLake while also creating new opportunities for local businesses such as our own Sullivan Brothers Markets Incorporated which handled both retail sales and brewing operations until 1984 when it merged with Allied Bakers Holdings Incorporated). Today Allied Bakers Holdings Incorporated continues to provide grocery store chain distribution services for Anheuser Busch Brewery products

The community name "Bonney" is likely derived from the Shawnee word "bon-konawa," meaning 'good place to camp'. The first settler in what is now Bonney Lake was George A. Bonney and his family who arrived in 1872. At that time there were just three houses and no other buildings in the town. The first post office in Bonney Lake was established on February 24, 1874 by J.M. Ferguson from Vancouver, British Columbia with a mail service between those two towns only for a short time before discontinued due to lack of customers. In 1898 There was an awful fire that destroyed about half of the small town including bonny lake hall and schoolhouse which remain standing to this day! The only building left standing after that fire was George Wetherington's house which still stands today along with a few other homes around it.. In 1907 a new post office Was built by Phebe Ladd (Ladd) and Samuel Fenton near the junction of State Route 99 & US 12 on the east side of town This location would later become home to Many different businesses over time such as bedandbreakfast inns & motels along SR 99 corridor until 2006 when it closed its doors permanently due to economic reasons

The population of Bonney Lake peaked at 280 in 1940, but declined to 100 by 1960.Today, the population of Bonney Lake is less than 50 residents. The downtown area has been renovated several times over the years and now houses a variety of businesses including a grocery store and restaurant as well as a library and museum.
On July 25, 1892, the first train arrived in Bonney Lake. The town was named after General John A.Bonney who fought in the Mexican-American War and also served as a delegate to the Washington Territorial Legislature. In 1907, the first post office opened in Bonney Lake. The towns growth continued until 1959 when it became a city with its own government.
