Bonney Lake is a small town in King County, Washington, located on the Republican River. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. The community is named after General John Bonney and his army that fought in the American Revolution. Bonney Lake first appeared as an unincorporated settlement on December 10, 1892 when W. H. Hecox organized the townsite of Echo Valley east of Bonney Lake on land donated by fellow homesteader Jens Osterlund. The name was formalized on October 4, 1893 when a post office was established at Echo Valley with the name of "Bonney" and "Lake". On May 3, 1895, a school was opened in Echo Valley under the auspices of the Seattle School District. A branch line from Seattle to Tacoma connected Bonney Lake with Echo Valley on November 15, 1898. The railroad arrived in Benton Harbor in 1901 and began serving as a local transportation backbone for farmers and other residents west of Seattle. Railroad tracks crossed near what is now Bonney Lake and traffic increased so much that agricultural production fell short of demand; businesses closed down or moved away during this period. By 1907 there were only two residences remaining within Echo Valley – one for Wm Dooley and one for Fannie Willard – along with 100 acres (40 hectares) of farmland used for cattle ranching or wheat farming operations scattered among several thousand rural homes surrounding it. In 1912 efforts began to build a dam across the river at what is now called Tunnel Hill; however construction delays led to serious water levels changes which threatened downstream communities such as Bonny Lake and Snohomish County towns such as Orchard Park upstream until finally solved by 1915 when another dam was built further upstream at Whatcom Dam). Eventually electric service became available to all bonnyingale Residents throughout King County through various investor-owned companies including Teledyne Electric Company (later part of Western Pacific Railway) who constructed Dam 12 (now electrified) north side main street south side tunnel entrance features today’s shopping center parkway .

The first European to visit Bonney Lake, Washington was Captain George Vancouver in 1792. The first white settlers arrived in the area in 1837 and built a log cabin on what is now known as lot 5 of homesteading land. The town of Bonney Lake was established in 1838, and by 1840 it had a Post Office, Store, School and two churches. In 1845 the first railroad was constructed through the area, and by 1850 Bonney Lake had a population of thirty-five people. During the late 1800s various mills were built along with gristmill, flourmill and sawmill operations. In 1901 a Methodist church was built at corner of 2nd Street and Meridian Avenue. By 1910 there were six stores operating within the town limits, three schools (grades one through four), an opera house (now used as a garage) and three churches. In 1936 the first telephone line was installed in Bonney Lake when Western Electric became involved with phone service in the area.
