The Marine CorpsDeployment Gift History Museum, located in Bellingham, Washington, preserves the history of Marines who have deployed to support our country. The museum is dedicated to educating the public about the Marines who have given their lives for America and preserving their legacy. Since its inception in 1984, the Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Museum has donated more than 29,000 items that have helped educate visitors about Marines who have served in both World War I and World War II. The museum’s collection includes uniforms, medals, books, posters and artifacts from every branch of service that has sent Marines abroad since 1941. The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Museum is open weekdays 9 a.m.–3 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; closed Mondays. Admission is free with an exhibiting interest or by donation to any local non-profit organization that wishes to preserve military history in our community.

Bellingham, Washington is a city in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2010 census, the population was 16,711. It is the county seat of Thurston County and the largest city in both King and Snohomish counties. The name "Bellingham" first appeared on maps in 1792 as part of an effort to rename Puget Sound after General George Vancouver, who had explored it during his surveying expedition in 1792-93. The name stuck and today's Bellingham derives from its location on water at what was then called Fort William Henry (now downtown Seattle). The first permanent settler in what would become Bellingham was Jean Baptiste Chretien de la Salle, a French trader who arrived with his family from Quebec in 1819 and named his new settlement Saint Laurent du Lac after himself. He built two fur trading posts near present-day Tacoma and Point Defiance before moving upriver to create the town he called New France on Kitsap Peninsula north of Tacoma in 1828. In 1836, Governor Isaac Stevens appointed John Young as postmaster at Saint Laurent du Lac; Young served until 1840 when he moved to Olympia to take over that position from James Kappes. In 1846, Robert Hensley purchased lands east of present-day downtown Seattle from Juan Ponce de Leon for $8 per acre ($ ). He founded nearby Bellevue with land acquired from Hensley's father-in-law Valentine Waddell ; Bellevue grew rapidly due to its proximity to transportation routes and naval yards on Puget Sound Naval Shipyard . After purchasing more land along Elliott Bay , Hensley established Bellevue Park which still exists today as one of the most popular public spaces in Seattle . Bellevue quickly became an important port for trade with eastern Canada because it lay at the mouth of Schnitzer River , just across Elliott Bay from where ships could dock for supplies or passengers; this made Bellevue very convenient for merchants looking to reach Asia vialand . By 1850, Bellevue had developed into a thriving commercial center with several stores, a shipyard/naval yard, a bakery/cafeteria complex (later converted into apartment buildings), theaters (including one that opened in 1903 hosting America's first world championship tennis match ), hospitals (one being built by Pacific Electric Railway ), schools (including one serving as Seattle's only high school until opening its own institution), churches (including one served by Catholic Cathedral ), 500 houses (), 2 miles () long () streetcar line (), 5 mile () hiking trails (), 3 miles () long ()) riverwalk (). During Prohibition era 1919–1920s many businesses closed their doors due prohibition laws ; however few were actually destroyed such as Stamps & Coie which reopened shortly afterwards
The town of Bellingham was founded on December 7, 1833 by Nicholas Princip. The first settler in the community was John Elder. On October 4, 1835, the first store in the town opened its doors. In 1839, a sawmill was built and in 1840 a grist mill. By 1851, there were four churches in the community and twelve businesses. In 1865, Bellingham had a post office and two schools. By 1880, there were sixteen businesses and ninety-eight people living in the town. The population peaked at one thousand nine hundred fifty-six residents in 1912 but declined to six hundred forty-five by 1920.
