Battle Ground is a town in King County, Washington. It is located on the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley and is part of the Wenatchee–Tacoma metropolitan area. The population was 9,831 at the 2010 census. The first people to inhabit Battle Ground were Native Americans who lived in villages near present-day Spokane and Wenatchee. They hunted and gathered for food in what is now the town. In 1855, settlers began to arrive from nearby Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia. Some of these new settlers bought land in what is now Battle Ground. Others built homes or barns on abandoned Indian reservations that they had acquired along the way. In 1857, Battle ground School was founded as a school for Native American children living in surrounding settlements. The school continued until 1921 when it became an all-white high school called Central High School (later renamed Pacific High School). In 1959, Battle ground Elementary School was opened as a public elementary school which continues to serve students today. In 1861, during Confederates’ attempt to take over Washington Territory, battle ground was one of many places fought between Union forces and Confederate troops under General Robert E Lee. The battle resulted in more than 20 dead and 100 wounded soldiers from both sides. On July 4th 1865, following The Civil War's end, most of Washington state turned into free states following secession by the Confederate States of America (CSA). As such, much property within King County including Battle Ground reverted back to Federal ownership following this event known as The Redeeming Event or Redemption Act Of 1865 (). As a result of this event not only did most residents become citizens but also assets subject to taxation - including paying taxes on land that had once been their ancestral domains! This change helped contribute towards increased development around Battle Ground over time while also creating some challenges since there still wasn't enough representation among these new citizens/landowners - something that has yet continue throughout today's history exchanges between government entities related thereto!

Battle Ground is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The Battle Ground community was founded in 1851 by soldiers from Fort Vancouver who were stationed at Lake Chelan and who camped on the site for two weeks before moving to their new fort. The first store opened in 1852 and a school was built in 1853. In 1855, General Winfield Scott's army rested at Battle Ground for three days before continuing its march to the battle of Lundy's Lane. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Battle Ground saw skirmishes between Union and Confederate forces. On September 13th 1861, Confederate General Jubal Early attacked a Union brigade under Lieutenant Colonel George Hanks northwest of town while it was marching towards Fort Snelling to reinforce nearby General David Wheeler's army. Early's attack resulted in one killed and five wounded; later that day, Union Colonel William Troup led his brigade into battle against Early and drove him back with heavy losses; after this successful engagement, Union General Ulysses S Grant ordered Hanks to send his remaining troops into town to rest; however, upon reaching town late that night he found no reinforcements available so he retreated back into camp without taking any enemy prisoners or artillery pieces. An important event which took place on October 10th 1861 happened when Major James Auld organized an infantry regiment from Puget Sound called "The Old Guard" which fought alongside Majors John Cushing and Ambrose Burnside against Confederate Brigadier general Nathan Bedford Forrest near Snelling Creek Bridge just outside of Battle Ground proper; despite being outnumbered 3-to-1 by Forrest's men as well as having inferior equipment (mostly rifles) these men managed to repel Forrest's assault with minor casualties until assistance arrived from Majors John Fetterman and Silas Wright who arrived on horseback with artillery support providing heavy fire which finally forced Forrest off the bridge after a long siege; Aftermath of this fight saw several members of "The Old Guard" Astor Pinchot Awarded Medals of Honor posthumously; both Captain James Auld (the regiment’s Commanding Officer) as well as First Lieutenant John Dennison were also awarded Silver Stars for actions taken during that day On November 8th 1861 Union Major Augustus Stephenson repelled an attack by Confederates commanded by Brigadier general David Dixon southwest of town prior to Battle Creek where Dixon had planned to cross over the creek onto Indian Territory side for an attack on Walla Walla In 1865 local farmers began raising corn using open-air cribs made out of logs covered with straw then buried again after harvest due spoilage caused by rain or snow ; early next century these cribs would be replaced with underground irrigation systems
