The Puget Sound Navy Yard in Auburn, Washington was founded on December 12, 1887 by Rear Admiral George Dewey. The yard was used to build the USS Tacoma and USS Olympia. It also built the USS Seattle and USS Tacoma-Alaskan. In 1930, it was merged with the Puget Sound Navy Shipyard to form Puget Sound Naval Shipyards. The shipyard built the destroyer escort USS San Francisco (DE-418) and the destroyer escort USS Neosho (DE-419). In 1941, it was merged with the Pacific Fleet to become United States Naval Forces Far East. The naval vessel yards eventually closed in 1970. However, they left behind a legacy of supplying ships for US fleets around the world until 1994 when they were reopened as Auburn Naval Shipbuilding Corporation. Naval vessels have been supplied by various shipyards throughout their history including: Bethlehem Steel Company, Forester Machine Works, Grumman Corporation, Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, Bath Iron Works and Bethlehem Steel Company among others. There are many different types of warships that have been built at these facilities such as submarines (USS Thresher), destroyers (USS Constitution Class), amphibious assault ships (USS Lsmouth), aircraft carriers (CVN(R) Enterprise/ CVN(L)(Pt)) and more. It remains active today with multiple units still serving with Japanese military forces around the world.. 4)Submarine Launch Vehicle Mk IX/Washakaze – This launch vehicle launched Soviet boats into orbit on three occasions between 1969-1970 using an Agena space launch vehicle developed by Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space Co., Ltd.. These launches were designated Kosmos 3 #715 through #723 (). 5) Nimitz Class American Aircraft Carrier – USS Enterprise (CVN 85), originally named Constitution Class after President James K Polk, earned its nickname “the Nimitz” following its commissioning on 10 July 1944 from Newport News Shipbuilding Incorporated along with four other new ships– Yorktown Class transport planes USN 706(L), 707(K), 708(F), Intrepid Class destroyer HMAS Sydney (D 552HG). After hostilities ceased on 15 September 1945 she served as flagship for Commander Sixth Fleetantine Area Air Group Pacific until decommissioned 14 May 1946 at Yokosuka anchorage

Auburn, Washington is a small town in the Yakima Valley of north-central Washington state. The population was 1,904 at the 2010 census. It lies on U.S. Route 10 about east of Seattle and west of Tacoma and is part of the Wenatchee–Tacoma metropolitan area. The name Auburn probably comes from the Asiatic word "Auan" meaning "hill." In 1875, when Gold Rushboners arrived in what is now Auburn, they named a post office for themselves - Auk Hill Post Office. The first school in Auburn was built in 1872 by teachers who moved from Olympia. The first permanent students were students at what is now Central High School in 1876-77; then another school was built next door (now called East High School). In 1881-82, a new school building was erected and renamed Southwestern Normal School after Dr. George Silliman, an early teacher hereabouts. In 1913-14 changes were made to the local government form including creation of an elected mayoralty with three members instead of one as it had been before; voters also chose to add two districts (northwest and southcentral) within the existing town limits making it an enlarged borough with a total population of 2,089 residents at its reformation election that year! On July 15th 1915 Town Meeting voted to annexsurrounding rural territory making Auburn an incorporated village with a total populationof 3,711 residents! Great Depression era saw heavy unemployment which led to some businesses closing but many others gradually reopened including Jughead's grocery store which became known as "Auburn's Best." This period also saw growth in other sectors such as retail trade and construction although manufacturing still played a large role until recently with few factories remaining open more than 50 years after opening their doors! On January 1st 1957 Auburn’s incorporation into King County resulted in increased opportunities for economic development both inside and outside the community due largely to county funding for various public works projects initiated during those years like expanding UW campus onto land once owned by prominent timber baron Sanitarium Incorporated formed by amalgamation of several smaller townships throughout King County
