Arlington, Washington has a rich coffee history dating back to the 1800s. The city was first settled by pioneers and early farmers in the Northwest Territory, and coffee was grown and consumed locally for many years. In the late 1800s, a group of German immigrants established a coffee plantation in nearby Snohomish County. The Snohomish Coffee Company became one of the largest and most successful coffee companies in the United States. In 1907, Arlington began serving its own coffee as well as that from Snohomish County. By 1914, Arlington had become an independent city with its own City Council and Mayor. The city's first commercial espresso machine was acquired in 1924 from Italy's Associazione Italiana Cafeterie (AIC) at a cost of $3,500. This machine quickly became popular in Arlington because it could be used to make two types of espresso: Lungo (long) and Volta (turn). The machine also produced milk froth for use with Frappuccinos or Latte Macchiato beverages. Benedictine monks who resided at St John's Abbey on Long Island imported dozens of tons of fresh beans each month during the 1920s to supply their monastery with high-quality espresso beans from central Italy. These beans were ground into nice smooth tea-like consistency using a special water mill known as a billet presser that did not operate like other mills which made coarse grinders available at local stores during this time frame After World War II ended, many Italian immigrants who had been displaced by Americanization returned home after experiencing racism throughout their stay abroad returned to their homeland only to find they had lost all their rights enjoyed by Americans such as free speech and equal treatment under law including access to education opportunities etc., despite living close enough to America for over 50 years! Consequently these Italians founded several large Italian restaurants within walking distance of each other which continued until shortly before my time when they all closed down due mainly to lack of patronage rather then anything intrinsic about those restaurants themselves

Arlington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. The town is bordered by Thurston County to the north and east, Snohomish County to the west and south, and Mason County to the east and southeast. The earliest known inhabitants of Arlington were the Puyallup people. In 1853 they moved from their home near Olympia to what is now Arlington after experiencing adverse effects of white settlement in that area. One of history's first airmail flap meetings took place in Arlington on October 20th, 1914 over objections to local annexation into Seattle by then-President Wilson's new nation. In 1966 Arlington became part of Seattle suburb Bothell when Bothell annexed all of King County except for a small slice including Arlinton which remained independent until 1990. At its peak in 1970 there were over 25 businesses in Arlington with a population exceeding 100 residents. However this increased focus on suburban living has led to an almost total loss of downtown retail business due to competition from larger malls located within easy commuting distance such as Bellevue and Redmond. Today little remains of what once was one of America's most vibrant downtowns other than a few scattered residential buildings along main Street between First Avenue North and Second Avenue North (the "Downtown Mall"). Some notable remnants include The Gilded Age building where President Woodrow Wilson had his headquarters during World War I (now used as a museum), Howard Johnson's restaurant Building No 2 which still stands (now occupied byprising coffee shop Eleven Madison Park), two Masonic temples – St John’s Temple built 1905-1907 on First Avenue South next door to Macy’s department store building ruins now used as office space for city hall telecommunications company Tower West Systems Inc., last remaining structure dating back to1872 enclosed within brick walls around present day Veterans Memorial Coliseum complex now used as meeting/gallery space for private events; while also remaining associated with local history are four original post office buildings erected between 1892-1894 on Main Street NE currently housing various apartments; these have been vacant since 1994 when they were acquired by the University District Neighborhood Development Corporation; also remaining intact are several individual homes whose architecture reflects early 20th century commercial/residential development patterns in Tacoma ; one being particularly noteworthy is Elmhurst Place built c1900 atop an earlier farmstead site adjacent to today’s Link Field stadium complex . . . many contributing factors including changing demographics, more recent suburban growth around campus periphery - centered primarily around arterial streets surrounding SR 99 - comprehensive redevelopment plans having not yet reached Arlington - have contributed notably insufficientlyto reversing decades-long trend towards decline & disinvestment seen throughout much urban core region served by UW System
