Manassas, Virginia is a town located in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 51,811 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Potomac River and is bordered to the north by Loudoun County and to the east by Prince William County. The first European settlers in Manassas were German Protestants who arrived around 1795. They named their community "Gottmanuscript". In 1802, General John Forbes created what is now Fairfax County as part of his reorganization of the United States after its victory over Mexico in the Mexican-American War. Fort George Washington was built on what is now Mount Vernon Square in 1803 to serve as an American military outpost on land that had been granted to Colonel Edward Jones (1768-1853) by King George III for his services during the war. In 1814, when President James K. Polk moved Ulysses S. Grant's forces from Petersburg into Northern Virginia following Confederate victories at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville, he ordered General Patrick Cleburne (1810-1873) to build a new fortification at Manassas Creek near present-day Arlington Cemetery for use by Union troops under General Ambrose Burnside (1821-1913). The original fortifications were abandoned in 1861 due to damage done during secessionist attacks on nearby civilian targets; however, they remained standing until 1967 when they were demolished to make way for a shopping mall and associated office buildings. In 1833, immigration began with Scandinavian settlers from Friesland who arrived aboard ships called "Larsen" and "Nilsen". By 1850 there were about 100 Norwegian immigrants living in Manassas; many of them worked as farmhands or menial laborers on large plantations owned by English landowners. By 1860 there were more than 400 Norwegians living in Manassas alone; some ran small businesses or operated taverns along US Route 1W between Fairfax Avenue and Prince Georges Street. soon after arriving here some Norwegian people started speaking English fluently which helped contribute towards assimilating into American culture faster than many other groups such as Germans or Irishmen who also immigrated during this time frame During World War II most of Manassas' population served in the Army or Navy; however, a few families did manage to stay behind and start small businesses such as candy shops, grocery stores and fabric stores within weeks of arriving here after leaving their homes back home countries In 1951 Manassas became an incorporated municipality with City Council members elected mayor/councilor instead of directly elected officials like those common today throughout most major U S cities In 1970 several thousand residents left ManASSAS due mainly to changing economic conditions caused by inflation rates combined with high taxes levied against small businesses including candy stores etc.; however although layoffs occurred it never reached levels seen throughout much larger cities like LA where entire neighborhoods have been lost over time

Manassas was a small town in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is now a neighborhood in Arlington County. The town was founded in 1793 by George Washington and his family as part of the land grant that he received from the King of France. In 1802, Manassas became part of Alexandria County and then Alexandria, Virginia in 1861 when the state of Virginia seceded from the United States. The first courthouse in Manassas was built on High Street in 1793. It soon became defunct because it could not keep up with the growing population. A new courthouse was built on Second Street around 1800, but it also failed to meet the needs of the community. A third courthouse, located on Elm Street near present-day Manassas Park, was completed in 1802 and served as the county seat for about 10 years before it fell into disrepair and was abandoned again. In 1811, Congress passed an act authorizing President James Kellar to establish a military post at Manassas to support Ulysses S. Grant’s Expedition against Mexico under General Antonio López de Santa Anna. The post operated until 1827 when it moved to Fredericksburg because of its strategic location between Richmond and Washington D.C.. A local store opened its doors at Third and Market Streets in 1865 after being established by Captain John Boudinot during Reconstruction days following slavery's end throughout Northern America. Captain Boudinot donated most of his goods however some items were confiscated by Confederate authorities who believed they were contraband goods similar to those being sold by Major Robert Ewell's Union army across the Potomac River at Fort Monmouth several miles north of Manassas Junction on December 22nd 1863 during Civil WarOperation Crossroads).
