The Syracuse National Guard was organized on February 14, 1907. The unit was known as the Utah Infantry and served in the Mexican-American War. On November 25, 1912, the Syracuse National Guard became an arm of the United States Army when it was reorganized as a rifle battalion. On June 26, 1916, the brigade designation was changed to divisional status and on October 1st of that year it became a corps d'elite under General Pershing's Division of American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. It disbanded on September 30th 1920 due to financial difficulties. In 1933, the Syracuse National Guard again received federal recognition when it was reorganized as a national guard battalion under Director of Military Affairs Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Plan for Defense Development. After being redesignated as a regiment in 1941 by order of President Harry S Truman, it participated in World War II and arrived in Europe late in 1944 after reaching Normandy from Pearl Harbor. Upon its return home in 1945 it resumed peacetime operations until disbanding on July 15th 1946 having been present for over 120 years!

In 1916 BYU moved from its original campus on Lots 15 and 16 in south Provo to its present site near Interstate 80. In 1970 LDS President Spencer W Kimball announced that all active temples had been closed within the LDS Church, meaning that Syracuse would be the only city in Utah still unaffected by this change. In 1978 when Brigham Young University purchased land east of Provo for a new campus, construction began on what are now known as Kimball Towers -today's SU Campus buildings were completed in 1984. When BYU decided not to build any more campuses after World War II, many people thought that SU might become irrelevant due to its geographic isolation from other major cities in Utah or North America; however, DUve continued thriving economically thanks to various partnerships with private businesses and government agencies including Health Sciences Associates which operated two hospitals adjacent to DUve until it merged into Emeryville-based Kaiser Permanente Healthcare System in 1997 SU also continues strong enrollment growth through online/telephone application processes among students who attend DUve locations outside their urban areas BothKimball Towersand SU Campusare designated National Historic Landmarks preserving evidence that these unique facilities have functioned as importantutyparksfor cultural expression and economic development within local communities

In 1846, Maine gift-giver David Sibley organized a unit called "Maine Rangers" which helped suppress partisan resistance throughout Maine during the 1850s gold rush period; thisunit would become known as one of America's earliest paramilitary organizations and remain active until 1922 when it merged into the Maine State Police force
