The St. George Coast Guard Station has been providing law enforcement and maritime services to the community since 1881. The station was once called the "Old Fort" because it was originally built on a fortification of ancient Native American ruins located near present-day St. George. In 1892, the Coast Guard Station moved from its original location on Second Street in downtown to its present location on Ninth Street between State Street and Main Avenue. Today, the Coast Guard Station provides service to both local residents and visitors in the area around Strathcona Beach, Cottonwood Cove, Silverdale Caverns, Zion National Park, and points east. With over 240 employees, the station offers an impressive range of services including search and rescue; hazardous materials removal; marine traffic control; water rescue; beach erosion control; fisheries management; public information bureau (PIB);and more. The Coast Guard Auxiliary was created in 1941 and the National Security Guard was established in 1947. In 1951, the Coast Guard Academy was founded and the Coast Guard ROTC program began in 1966. In 1978, the National Environmental Policy Act Amendments granted the Coast Guard authority to protect critical infrastructure from environmental damage. Today, the Coast Guard has over 5,000 employees and operates 133 vessels including 12 ships oficersthip that provide search and rescue services as well as fisheries patrol and law enforcement assistance.

In 1930, the first Coast Guard cutter was built and gifted by Vice Admiral Walter W. Morgan Jr.. In 1992, a gift of 6286 golf clubs was made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United States Golf Association (USGA). In 2002, a gift of 5486 DVDs were given as part of "A Great Day at Sea" campaign that celebrates American maritime history including coast guard stories and photos dating back to 1795 when Captain George Washington sailed his flagship "Navy Day" into Long Island Sound for the first time. In 2006, a gift of 8362 pizza boxes was given as part of "Great Moments in Pizza History" campaign celebrating fifty years since Papa John's founding in 1948.
St. George is a small town in Utah, located on the Wasatch Front. The town was founded in 1856 by pioneers from New York and Pennsylvania. It became a city in 1907 and a county seat in 1912. The population of St. George was 9,890 as of the 2010 census. The original settlers were primarily English Protestants who arrived during the California Gold Rush in 1848. They began to build homes around what is now downtown St. George and established an agricultural society to produce food for their families and sell goods to traders and travelers along the Great Salt Lake Valley route. In 1856, they elected Jeptha Stephens as their first mayor; he served until 1860 when he was replaced by John Witherspoon Young who also served as mayor from 1862-1864, 1870-1872, 1876-1878, 1880-1882, 1886-1888, 1890-1892, 1896-98; all three men were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Utah (later renamed United Presbyterian Church). In 1907, St. George became part of Ogden County after it was chosen as the county seat following approval by a vote of the residents at an election held that year. At that time it had a population of 514 people; however, by 1910 its population had increased to 1,353 people thanks to waves of migration from surrounding counties – most notably Weber County – which had become available due to new land grants program created following Indian Wars fought between federalists and antiwar forces led by Brigham Young III (see Utah War History). As such, during World War I (1915–1917) St.George played an important role as both an artillery battery site at Kamaci Ridge near Mountain View Naval Air Station and home base for American Expeditionary Forces troops fighting on both sides on Isreal side (as well as providing services such as grocery groceries). By 1923 its population had reached 2,906 people according to the UCR censuses conducted every 10 years since 1870s; however this number peaked at 3 annexation votes cast against Ogden County’s attempt total annexation by Provo City through Proposition 22 in 1932 despite protests from citizens throughout much of Ogden County northward including SaintGeorge itself which saw its first post office opened there only two years earlier! As one might expect given its size geographically speaking – just south/central Utah bordering Arizona along Interstate 15 on one side while lying within Colorado “northwest corner” forming part of US Open Range National Monument & Storey Wilderness Area across river on other side with major ski resorts close at hand nearby – crime rates are high but have decreased significantly over recent decades although some issues still remain such as alcohol abuse among youth especially within rural areas adjacent thereto – many young adults attending local universities or working outside economy taking up various forms of recreational activity thereby increasing tourism industry output including many job opportunities for locals not easily available elsewhere!
