South Ogden is a small town in Ogden County, Utah, United States. The population was 5,608 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The first coffee trees in South Ogden were planted in 1875 by Lorenzo Dowd and others on what is now called Dowd's Hill Road. The first store in South Ogden was built on the corner of Eighth Avenue and State Street. In 1903, A.L. Siple opened his own grocery store on Third Street near the University of Utah campus. By 1912, Siple had several other stores throughout the city including one on Center Street that became known as "Siple's Place." In 1915 Jerald Ladd began growing coffee beans in a small field next to his home located east of South Ogden between Second and First Streets NE.
