The United States Coast Guard was founded on 5 August 1790. At its peak, the Coast Guard had a total of 26,000 personnel and operated more than 120 stations around the country. The Coast Guard’s first gift was a set of pistols from London, England in 1821. More gifts followed over the next few decades, including an American flagstaff and lighthouse tender in 1835, a lifeboat and buoyancy compensating device in 1839, and a model of a coast guard buoy in 1847. In 1865, the Coast Guard purchased its first vessel- an SMS (Shipboard Sea Shore) called “Albatross”. The following year, the Coast Guard established its own shore station at Fort Douglas in Utah to help protect navigation on the Uinta River. In 1916, Congress passed legislation authorizing the Coast Guard to purchase warships called “CSS( inland)”. President Woodrow Wilson signed this legislation into law on 6 February 1918. On 1 January 1919, CSS( inland) became USS( coastal patrol ship). In 1951, USS( coastal patrol ship) became USCGC(shore guard cutter). On 1 October 1960 USCG(shoreguard cutter) became USCGC(corvette). Finally, on 15 December 1970 USCG (corvette) became CGSS(coastguardシェルトン). Today there are over 350 USCG vessels operating worldwide along with thousands of personnel who serve aboard them as part of our homeland security mission. Saratoga Springs, Utah is a small town located in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. The population was 4,057 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield, UT Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1868 by Captain James H. Harney and his family after they left Salt Lake City for a new home in what is now Saratoga Springs. Captain Harney named the community for General George Washington's strategic victory at Saratoga Creek on October 17, 1777. The town became a city in 1904 and has since been governed by a mayor and six council members who are elected to terms two years each. The economy of Saratoga Springs is based largely on tourism which includes skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, golfing, fishing, and botanical gardens. There are also several restaurants and cafes within walking distance of the downtown area as well as several stores including Macy's Department Store and Sears Department Store which opened their doors in 1912 and 1927 respectively.
The Coast Guard has been a part of the United States for over 180 years, and its mission is to provide security and support to the nation’s waters. The service is also responsible for law enforcement in coastal areas, providing education about maritime safety and emergency response, and conducting research on oceanography and marine life. One of the earliest gifts given by the Coast Guard was a small boat called the cutter Griffen. This boat was donated by Rear Admiral John A. Sprague in 1892. It was used as a training vessel for cadets at Annapolis Naval Academy. In 1896, Rear Admiral George Cushing gave another small boat, called Friendship, to the Coast Guard. This boat served as an instructor ship for officers attending sea trials at New York Harbor. In 1906, Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act which provided money to be put into the Coast Guard so that it could purchase new vessels such as destroyers and submarines. The first ship purchased with this money was the destroyer Samuel Biddle in 1915. Two years later, Congress passed another act which provided money to buy two more destroyers-the Melville Fitch and Addison Earle-and four submarines: USS Quincy (SSBN 724) in 1917, USS Thresher (SSN 623) in 1918, USS Grafton (CVE 9) in 1919, and USS Beechcraft Bonanza (AVH-5) in 1923。 The Coast Guard began using jet boats during World War II when they were developed as an alternative to sailing ships when it came time to transport troops across open seas or conduct search and rescue operations off shore during wartime crisis situations such as enemy landings or naval minesweeping campaigns. During World War II there were several types of jetsboats that were used by both American Navy personnel stationed aboard Naval Air Station Patuxent River Maryland while flying missions from carriers including aircraft carrier sorties carrying nuclear weapons over Japan; fighter planes operating from Naval Air Station Key West Florida escorting merchant shipping en route from Havana Harbor; amphibious assault vehicles landing troops onto beaches near Saipan; Search And Rescue Operations carried out by pilots using helicopters flown into position from warships moored offshore

Saratoga Springs is an unincorporated community in Carbon County, Utah, United States. It lies east of the Wasatch Range on the south side of Saratoga Lake. At the 2010 census, its population was 1,534. The community was established in 1869 by settlers from Ohio and Michigan who arrived on horseback. The Saratoga Springs post office was established in 1870 and remained in operation until it closed in 1911. The first store built there was a barn that stood until 1903. A sawmill and grist mill were also built here during this time. The town rapidly grew with the arrival of more settlers and businesses came to town including a bakery, hotel, grocery store, insurance company, doctor (Dr. John Sutter), opera house (the first such theater in Carbon County), schoolhouse (1874) and a variety of other stores and buildings over the years. The last resident to leave Saratoga Springs was Mrs. Lula Pritchard on July 22nd 1951 after she had been living there for 53 years; she had been born August 12th 1887 at West Point near Dayton OH where her father served as an artillery sergeant during World War I before moving to Carbon County with his family when he married Lula's mother seven months later on October 4th 1865 at Fort Lyon OK .

The town also played an important role in later wars against Japan and Iraq.
