The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Waxahachie, Texas was founded on December 27, 1912. The Auxiliary is a volunteer organization that provides support to the Coast Guard through providing duty-free items and services to the public. The Auxiliary has been present in Waxahachie since 1916 and currently operates two boats- one for rescue purposes and one for patrol. In addition to their boat service, the Auxiliary also provide gift shop, banquet facilities, and other auxiliary functions throughout the year. In 1916, local citizens banded together to create a volunteer group called the "Waxahachie Coast Guard." At first only tasked with providing free duty-free items for members of the military stationed in town, the group soon grew larger and began offering more than just supplies. Today, members of the Auxiliary are widely known for their generous donations of time and resources to support our nation’s coastal defense system. Waxahachie, Texas is a small town in the eastern part of Texas. The population was 9,821 at the 2010 census. It is located in Waxahachie County. The area that now makes up Waxahachie was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the mid-19th century. In 1876, an act of Congress allowed white Texans to purchase land east of the Sabine River for $5 per acre. The town was founded on this parcel of land and named after General Sam Houston’s nephew, James Waco (1794–1836). The original settlers were mainly farmers and their families who set up businesses such as grocery stores and machine shops. As time passed, other groups of Texans arrived in Waxahachie including German immigrants, Mexicans, African Americans and Asians. One result of these newcomers was increased trade and commerce within the community which led to more wealth being created for local residents. Today, waxahachie continues to be a smalltown with strong ties to its past while also welcoming new arrivals into the community who have energy and dreams alike.

The Coast Guard was created as a result of the Spanish-American War and the United States’ entry into World War I. The Coast Guard became operational on April 15, 1915. During the WWII era, the Coast Guard played an important role in both world wars by providing coastal security and search and rescue services. During the Vietnam Era, the Coast Guard also played an important role in maintaining maritime safety and public order by participating in Search and Rescue Operations, establishing Air Traffic Control Centers, providing support to military operations, and conducting other missions related to homeland security. Since its inception, the Coast Guard has made many changes to its organization, mission, capabilities, and personnel that have contributed to its success as a national service institution. Some of these changes include: - creation of 11 divisions which now provide specialties such as law enforcement; emergency response; fisheries; environmental protection; transportation security; border patrol; port security; oceanography; counterterrorism/counterdrugs/human trafficking/narcotics enforcement;; - addition of 7 helicopter wings which provide air traffic control services along with disaster relief capability when needed including Hurricane Katrina (2005), Mexico City earthquake (1946), East Japan Earthquake (1995), Alaska Earthquake (2002), Indian Ocean tsunami (2004), storm surge prediction during hurricane season (2008-2009) - introduction of unmanned aerial vehicles which can provide real time surveillance data on vessels
