Sulphur Springs is a small town located in Potter County, Texas. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. Sulphur Springs is the most populous municipality in Potter County and the second-most populous municipality in Texas after Dallas. It is home to Sulphur Springs High School, which serves students from grades 9-12. Interstate 10 passes through the town, providing access to both Dallas and Houston. The first humans to live in Sulphur Springs were pioneers who migrated from Missouri around 1836. They built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the creek that would later become known as Spring Creek Boulevard. By 1840, there were several families living in Sulphur Springs and many businesses had been started here including a store, blacksmith shop and hotel. In 1851, Methodist missionaries came to Sulphur Springs and founded First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs which remains an active church today with more than 3,000 members strong. In 1865 when Reconstruction ended following the American Civil War, most African Americans left for new opportunities elsewhere in America but some of those original settlers kept their homes and continued farming until after World War II when denim became popular here among farmers seeking cheaper labor on large cotton plantations out west A post office was established at Sulphur Springs in 1870; it closed operations in 1903 due to lack of subscribers In 1903 oil exploration began at Spring Creek near present day Sulphur springs; this led to increased development along Spring Creek Boulevard as people sought land for drilling rigs and other personal assets during what would be called "the age of oil." Businesses grew rapidly here as people bought property adjacent toSpringCreekBoulevardand spent proceeds creating infrastructure such as roads, schools and churches that continue into this day In 1936 local businessman Roy Weldon organized the first rodeo event ever held within Potter County outside Wichita Falls; this event helped start what would become one of our largest industries - rodeo entertainment Today we enjoy three annual Oktoberfest events – one at Main Street Park each year on October 6th & 7th – thanks largely to donations by citizens all over Texas!

Sulphur Springs is located in Houston County, Texas, in the eastern part of the state. The community was founded by Colonel John S. Grant on a tract of land he purchased from the Comanche people in 1848. Sulphur Springs established itself as a small town with one store and seven residents in 1851. By 1865, it had grown to a population of fifty-five and two churches. In 1898, Sulphur Springs became an independent municipality under the name of Sulphur Springs Utilities Authority. The city limits were expanded to include portions of Springtown and other adjacent municipalities in 1906. In 1940, Sulphur Springs merged with Springtown to form the present-day city of Sulphur Springs. The first black person to live in Sulphur Springs was Ida B Wells who arrived there in 1911 from Houston County and lived with her parents until 1914 when she moved into a white home. Wells worked as an usher at local dances before becoming one of Sulphur Springs' first African American residents when she married Ollie Gaines on October 3, 1915. They raised two children before Gaines died in World War II while serving overseas; Ida continued raising their children alone until they were adopted by her brother Alonzo Banks after his death in 1982. After Alonzo's death, Ida remarried and raised her three grandchildren within the city limits of Sulphur Springs before moving out into ruralHouston County where she currently resides
Sulphur Springs was founded in 1881 by James H. Sulphur and his family. The Sulphur Springs Manufacturing Company was the first company to produce sulphuric acid, a key ingredient in fertilizers, on a large scale in Texas. The Sulphur Springs Market is still open today and features local foods from the area as well as items from other states in the US.
