However, by 1990 Seagovile's population had decreased to 1,500 residents due to various factors such as suburbanization and loss of jobs in nearby towns such as Round Rock or Georgetown. In 2000, Seagoville voters passed a resolution repudiatingstatehood for Texas within the United States Constitution because it would have deprived them of their own government which they felt was important to them economically and politically. Since then, Seagoville has worked hard to build relationships with other communities within its boundaries including those located inside Texas through organizations such as the Vernon County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture group as well as collaborative efforts with neighboring counties such as Williamson County in east Texas or Travis County near Austin. Today, many people still call Seagoville home due to its close proximity to Austin and its numerous cultural opportunities available outside of town limits; however some residents may enjoy traveling into downtown Austin for shopping or dining experiences unique to that city alone
