The Roma, Texas Army Post Office has been in operation since 1907. It was the first post office in Roma and is one of the oldest post offices in Texas. The army post office was originally called Fort Worth Post Office and served as a garrison for the arsenal at Fort Worth during World War I. The fort was destroyed in 1916 and the post office was renamed Fort Worth Army Post Office on November 1, 1916. After World War II, it served as an infantry training center and finally became a military postal service on December 12, 1957. The army post office changed its name to Roma Army Post Office on October 9, 1972. On July 5, 1991, the army post office closed because of budget cuts and it reopened under its current name on September 1st with a new mail room and processed mail from all over the state of Texas.

When this region became part of the United States in 1846 many Mexicans moved into what are now called Roma areas because they could not find land elsewhere after being forced off their farms following Mexicano Revolution efforts to gain independence from Spain.
