Plainview is a small town in the county of Medina, Texas, United States. It is located on the eastern edge of Medina County, about 12 miles (19 km) east of Dallas and 9 miles (15 km) north of Temple. Even though war interrupted Plainview's growth significantly during the 1940s and 1950s, it regained its former stature by 1960 when its population reached 20,000 people again. In 1970-71, Clearwater Schools Incorporated (now Clearwater Independent School District) opened up PlainVIEW High School which would become one of the most successful high schools in Williamson County. In recent years however, plans have been made to close both Clearwater HS and make way for a new high school inPlainVIEW that will serve students from across all villages within Williamson County (the village currently known as Druryville will not be part of this project). PlainVIEW is located about 15 miles north east of downtownDallas on I-30 exit 103A near milepost 469 on Highway 183 which provides easy access to Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and other major cities nearby such as Houston and Austin. According to the 2010 census data available at Wikimedia Commons - "The original settlement date back to 1878 when three families: Jenkins', Rankin,' & Welch bought 780 acres northwest of what is now downtown Dallas." The name "plainview" likely comes from a farmstead called Hawk's Nest that stood two miles northeast of where present day Main Street crosses I-30 just outside Dallas/Fort Worth airport boundary on Airport Roadclose to Elmendorf Air Force Base used until recently by Midway Airlines as their hub before being closed down due mainly to emissions restrictions placed on airports by state legislators following enactment of state law mandating lower emissions from aviation facilities statewide; Hawk's Nest also served as Post Office from 1880-1920."
