Pearland is a city in west Texas, located in McLennan County. The population was 34,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McLennan County. The first recorded mention of Pearland was in 1836 when A.J. Caldwell wrote about "a place called Pearland" on his journey from San Antonio to Lubbock. By 1853, Pearland had a population of 50 and by 1861 it had grown to 100 people with a post office named after its founder, Elisha Barton Pearce. In 1865, the town acquired land from James Bowie and began construction of what would eventually become University Park Elementary School and Baylor University's Law School Building before annexing parts of campus for businesses and residential development in the early 1930s. In 1951, Pearland annexed part of League City which then became its second largest municipality with a population over 100,000 residents before becoming an independent city within McLennan County in 1973 following election of Mayor Clyde Covington as its first female mayor. On December 6, 2009 Pearl Land hosted the world's largest street fair known as "Texas Street Fair". The event drew over 1 million visitors who enjoyed more than 350 attractions including themes such as arts & crafts, carnivals & rides, food concessions and more.

Pearland is a city in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,890 at the 2010 census. Pearland was founded as a town on the banks of the San Jacinto River by John C. Hogg and others in 1872. It became a city in 1907 and remained so until it merged with Houston in 2013. The original settlers who founded Pearland were Methodist Episcopalians from North Carolina and Virginia. They arrived on boats carrying goods to Galveston from New Orleans in 1846. They built their first homes on land they purchased near what is now downtown Pearland. By 1870, they had organized themselves into a town corporation and built two churches, one of which remains standing today: First Presbyterian Church (now the Houston Baptist University School of Architecture) and Second Baptist Church (now City Hall). A post office was established at Pearland in 1872, and the first mail received there was an order for shoes from Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1907, Mayor J P White proposed merging the two cities into one bigger entity under his name - "Houston-Pearland". The proposal met with opposition due to its competitive nature; however, it passed unanimously with only three dissenting votes. The merger created a new city government with an mayor/council form of government that continues to this day. During World War II, Pearland played host to both Naval Air Station Corpus Christi ( NASCorp) and Ulysses S Grant Marine Barracks #2 (USMC barracks used during World War II). NASCorp's squadron headquarters were located east of downtown over what is now Harry Hines Park before being moved inland towards Clear Lake Boulevard when NASCorp disbanded after the war ended. During World War II also came what is considered to be Pearland's greatest contribution: The creation of TX Highway 6 which runs through most of its territory including downtown Houston as well as serving as an important connector between Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan areas east of I-10 and west of I-35W known then as "the Loop" or simply "the Beltway". TX Highway 6 remains present today within Pearson's boundaries
