In 1933, Elvis Presley performed at Memorial Hospital during his working visit to Wichita Falls before going on to Clarksville TN for two weeks’ worth of recording sessions at Sam Phillips’s Sun Records Studios where he recorded his first album including singles "All Shook Up" and "I Can't Quit You Baby". In 1957 Gulfport Incorporated (later known as Gulfport Shipbuilding Corporation) located on Bayou Teche near present day Canton also hosted a week-long visiting star party for stars like Bing Crosby, Al Jolson and Jerry Lewis who came from all over America to participate in what is now known as the Louisiana Hayride event organized by Jack Benny Productions
