The Coast Guard Auxiliary of Highland, Texas was founded in 1934. The Auxiliary is an organization that assists the Coast Guard by providing a variety of services such as search and rescue, environmental protection, public education and more. In addition to its own assets, the Auxiliary also shares resources with other Federal agencies. The Auxiliary’s gift history dates back to 1934 when it donated a cadet boat to the Coast Guard. It has since donated over 100 vessels and boats including HH-1H helicopters, Lifeboats/Lumberjacks, Lifejackets (including weather protection units) and more. Today, the Auxiliary enjoys a rich donation history that includes many different types of gifts. In 2016, the Auxiliary gifted a P-3C Orion helicopter to the Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi. This helicopter will help with Search and Rescue operations as well as providing environmental monitoring capabilities for Coastal communities in Central Texas. Additionally, in 2017 the Auxiliary gifted two HMMWV’s (Humvees) to Corpus Christi air station. These vehicles will be used for coastal patrols as well as helping with Emergency response situations on local beaches during extreme weather events.

Highland, Texas is a small town located in Tarrant County, Texas. The population was 2,358 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. Highland has a latitude of 32 degrees and longitude of 97 degrees. The first European to visit this area was the Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto in 1519. He named the area "Hidalgo" after his warlord father, Hernando de la Vega y Castro. In 1824, General Antonio López de Santa Anna moved his army from Nacogdoches to this area during the Mexican-American War and called it Los Libres because they were not subject to Mexico's rule. In 1846, when Texas became an American state and land grants were given out among its citizens, Highland received a grant from President James Kenedy for 640 acres (2 km²). In 1862, Confederate troops occupied Highland while troops under General Braxton Bragg fought against Union forces near Fort Worth; as a result of this battle nearby Round Top Cemetery was destroyed by Union artillery fire which also killed six men who had been buried there that day. On December 12th 1865 four days after Christmas Ulysses S Grant arrived at Fort Worth with over 5000 soldiers on what would be known as "The Great Chicago Fire". Sherman's march through Texas began on December 17th and ended on February 3rd 6 miles north of Highland Park where he burned 11 towns including Dallas and Arlington before marching towards downtown Austin On July 16th 1907 two young men working for Southern Pacific Railway named Harry Wolkentin hitchhiked across country from Brownsville to Homestead Junction just outside of Highland Park. They started their own railroad company which would eventually become Southern Pacific Railroad

In 1988, the Coast Guard donated 446 lifeboats and 46 helicopters to various organizations throughout New York City in order to support emergency response during Hurricane Expressions II. These gifts helped contribute significantly towards saving lives during this catastrophic event.

Despite these challenges, Highland has remained an active community that continues to pursue its traditions of hospitality and community service.
