The Coast Guard Gift History in Forest Hill, Texas can be traced back to 1879. At that time, the Forest Hill Volunteer Fire Department was organized and consisted of only six men. The department was so small that it wasn’t even authorized to issue gifts. However, because of the generosity of some residents, the department soon began issuing gift certificates for materials and services needed by its firefighters. These certificates became known as “Gift Certificates from the Heart” and continue to this day as a cherished tradition at the fire department. In 1936, the Forest Hill Volunteer Marine Battalion was created and soon thereafter received its own gift certificate system. This system allowed citizens of Forest Hill to purchase tickets for special occasions such as Fleet Week or Marine Day. Regular members could also purchase tickets for other events not related to firefighting or naval activities. The gift certificate system continued until 1976 when it was replaced by a voucher system which remains in use today. The Coast Guard Station Forest Hill was established in 1936 as the first Coast Guard station on the Texas coast. The station served as a base for the coastal patrol, providing law enforcement and security for the area. In 1957, the Coast Guard Station Forest Hill became a lighthouse and continued to serve as such until 1978 when it was replaced by the present lighthouse.
Forest Hill is a small town in the county of Medina, Texas, United States. The population was 1,405 at the 2010 census. Forest Hill is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become Forest Hill were Jesse and Rebecca Smith who arrived in 1848 from Kentucky. The two men built a cabin on the outskirts of town and started to raise crops and cattle. They were followed by their wives and children around 1849. By 1870, there were twenty five families living in Forest Hill with over one hundred head of cattle, seventy four hogs, twelve horses and six pigs. In 1880, forest hill had a post office with mail service from Fort Worth; it also had a school for grades one through ten. A store was built on High Street in 1883 which became known as the "Golden Gopher". In 1865 David Hays purchased land east of present day Forest Hill for $800 dollars which he used toation to build his ranch named after him - Hays Rancho de las Estrellas (Hays Ranch). This area became known as Fields Park after David's death in 1899 when his estate sold all of his land back to the government for development into Arlington Cemetery which includes much of what is now Forest Hill. The first house on this property was built by Eliza Kuykendall Price in 1875 while her husband still lived at Fields Park Manor with their three children: Aline (1876-1929), Leslie (1879-1954) and Edwin (1881-1966). After Eliza's death her husband laid down plans for an even grander home that never materialized but left behind evidence including many scale models still extant today inside Field's Park Manor - one can take a tour today! On July 9th 1861 local resident John Bontrager moved his family from Sugar Land to Medina County looking for new land where they would establish themselves as farmers – he found what he thought was perfect just north of present day foresthill when he discovered some high ground overlooking White Sands Dam having potential wheat fields that could be irrigated using waterpower provided by White Sands Power Plant some fifteen miles away! When Mexican forces invaded Texas on April 20th 1865 almost all native Texans joined Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna as they fought against American troops under Ulysses S Grant near Fort Hood Arkansas although most residents chose not to fight because they viewed it more as an inconvenience than anything else… few if any chose to flee into Mexico rather than face execution or deportation! Unfortunately those responsible only got off lightly with only 3 soldiers convicted out of over 6,000 people arrested during the war including many residents such as Bontrager himself! It wasn’t until 1886 when Congress passed legislation giving citizenship to anyone born within or naturalized outside the United States regardless of whether they fought or didn’t fight!! Thus began what would eventually become known as “The Great American Migration” spearheaded by eastern European immigrants like George Washington Carver who via Agricultural Department loans bought up large tracts across central America offered generous mortgages backed by UBI Bonds!! These immigrants brought their skillset & technologies along so that western farmers could benefit from advances made possible thru railroads etc….. thus beginning what we know today as American civilization!!! In 1915 Forrest J Ackerman opened A&W restaurant located adjacent to current day Peachtree Road serving up food items such as soft drinks & ice cream along with hunting & fishing trips out west….the original building still stands today next door! It wasn't until 1945 when Forrest J Ackerman donated most if not all ownership rights back to Medina County following World War II that things really took off starting with businesses like Home Depot moving uptown into present day Forest Hills Plaza followed later by Barnes and Noble….the list goes on & On !! Today our community has Numerous businesses ranging from insurance companies/finance firms/lawyers/retailers/etc……to full time homemakers (& preachers too!) making us quite unique compared to other small towns across America!!! Our downtown district features several busy streets lined with boutiques, cafes, restaurants etc…..and continues onto Peachtree Rd providing plenty of shopping opportunities both locally & out east including several major malls classifieds services (& larger stores)! We have an active Chamber Of Commerce consisting mostly volunteer members variously involved in marketing eventsivist causes such as golf tournaments benefiting charities or hosting dinner dances fundraiser auctions etc…..plus numerous civic engagement programs throughoutyear!!!!!
The Coast Guard has been providing service to the people of America since 1879. The United States Coast Guard was founded on August 3, 1790 as part of the newly created Department of War. The Coast Guard’s mission is to protect the nation’s coasts and waterways from illegal activities, promote coastal safety and conserve resources. Throughout its history, the Coast Guard has responded to a variety of emergencies including hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, piracy, and terrorist attacks. In recent years, however, the Coast Guard has become increasingly dedicated to counterterrorism efforts as well as homeland security. This focus on counterterrorism comes in addition to increased attention paid to climate change and energy insecurity. Today, the Coast Guard operates over 6 thousand vessels including patrol boats, helicopters and icebreakers. Vessels are used for a variety of missions such as Search and Rescue (SAR), environmental monitoring/ enforcement (EOM), fisheries patrols (FPS), traffic control/migration prevention (TCP/MP), border crossing inspection (BCI) and search-and-rescue operations (SARO). Additionally, coast guard helicopters provide support for law enforcement agencies during criminal investigations or natural disasters.

The first settler, John Hildebrandt, built a cabin on what is now the corner of Third and Elm Streets. In 1881, Forest Hill began to process lumber from the surrounding country. In 1886, Michael Ladd opened a restaurant at Sixth and Elm Streets called Ladd’s Cafe which became one of Texas’ most popular destinations for travelers. In 1902, Forrest Davenport developed a dairy farm on what is now Fifth Street in Forest Hill. This gave rise to the nickname “Davenport” because of its location within town limits. In 1937, Jock Lawson opened his original grocery store at Seventh and Elm Streets in Forest Hill which remains one of the town's most popular businesses today. Jock Lawson also served as mayor of Forest Hill from 1951-1957 and 1969-1977. In 1966, Texaco bought out Phillips Petroleum Company which led to increased oil production in North Texas. As a result of this development, Forest Hills saw an increase in population and industry which has led to continued growth throughout its history. The current incarnation of Forest Hills began developing during the late 1990s when developers renovated much of downtown into modern condos and office buildings with an eye towards revitalizing both the area as well as attracting new residents who desired more than just retired seniors living off their property values alone!
The Forest Hill area of Texas was first settled by the Comanches in the 18th century. The area was also home to a number of settlers during the 19th century, including Captain John Hance who named the community for his home town of Forest Hill, England. The first post office at Forest Hill was established in 1872. In 1907, the community name was changed to Haskell after a settler from Kansas. After Haskell's death in 1911, his family donated land to the city which became Fort Worth Park.
