Duncanville is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,547 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Duncanville was J.F. "Fritz" O'Neill in 1876. He and his wife, Aimee (née McConnell), moved from Missouri to a location near what is now Uptown Shopping mall and started an orange grove that soon produced crops for local merchants and sold flowers on the side of the road. A few years later Fritz bought land east of town on which he built a home with six rooms and two stories complete with indoor plumbing and hot water system. In 1902, Smedley Butler purchased 309 acres (120 ha) northeast of town from Fenton Hargrave for $3,000 cash. This area became known as Butler's Ranch after Butler developed it into a large horse breeding operation with over 100 head of horses valued at $10,000 at its peak in 1916. In 1907, Wm Cope opened the first store in what would become Duncanville when he located it on Buffalo Trace Boulevard between present day Elm Street and I-30/Uptown Drive South. By 1915 there were 10 stores in Duncanville employing 140 people including 60 women archived copy. In 1916 Wm Cope became the first Mayor of thisTown.
Friday night football games were popularized by Ewing High School students who organized themselves into "Duncanville Tigers" or sometimes just "Tigers". One Saturday morning early in 1926 all but one player from Tiger varsity football team played together under coach Webster Goodwin during spring practice before playing their final game that season against Haskell Consolidated high school which they won 9–0.
