Donna was founded on October 25, 1876 by John Waring and his wife, Anna Fenton Waring. A post office called Donna was established in 1877, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1955. Donna is named for Anna Fenton Waring who donated land to make the town possible. The first permanent settler were four brothers from Illinois who arrived on horseback on October 25, 1876. They set up a log cabin and started trading goods with the local Indians. In 1880 they erected a white schoolhouse which still stands today. In 1893 the Cimarron & Texas Central Railroad line passed through Donna and began carrying passengers and cargo between Lampasas and Austin; this opened up new opportunities for settlers in rural areas around Lampasas County including Donna. By 1908 there were over 100 homes hereabouts! The 1920s were tough times for Donna as World War II took its toll on military families moving westward to escape rationing; however, by 1951 only 10% of the population had left since Donnans had become one of America’s most traditional farming towns! In that year Donna also became home to America’s first high school when Lamar High School opened nearby (later Lamar University). Today’s community has seen many changes over time but its core values remain strong: hard work ethic and family orientedness are hallmarks of this historically active community!

Donna was founded in 1853 by Captain James Hogg and his wife, Laura Hogg. The name comes from Don Pedro de la Cueva, a Spanish explorer who discovered the site in 1827. The first post office was established in Donna in 1865. The town became an influential center for cattle drives during the 19th century because it had easy access to open range land and good water supplies. In 1881, Donna began annexing surrounding settlements, including Bastrop and Mount Pleasant; this increased its population to 2,500 by 1907. After World War II, Donna become increasingly involved with agricultural production as a result of its location on several key feeder trails to nearbyrazes and crop fields. In recent years, Donna has experienced growth as a bedroom community for Austin proper and as a destination for tourists visiting Mount Vernon State Park and Barton Springs State Park within walking or biking distance of the city limits.
