Balch Springs, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located in Comal County, about 20 miles (32 km) south-southwest of Fort Worth and 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Dallas. The population was 8,782 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Balch Springs was James Waddell in 1859. The town was built on the site of what is now the University of North Texas at Arlington and it became a township in 1872 when it amalgamated with other townships within Comal County. In 1911, part of Balch Spring Township merged into Irvington to form Irvington-Balch Springs Township which still exists today as an independent municipality within Comal County The community that would become Balch Springs began to grow around the railroad depot known as "the Lighthouse" which served as a stop for travelers on their way to nearby Fort Worth or Dallas. By 1910, there were more than 150 homes and businesses in town and by 1930, there were over 2,000 residents living here. During World War II,Balch Springs played a significant role as one of several U.S Military installations located near Comal County due to its proximity to airports serve by then RAF Bomber Command during timed raids against German targets throughout Europe In recent years, Balch Springs has experienced growth due to its location close to I-10 and I-35 corridors which have led to increased traffic congestion downtown but also new development including apartments, condominiums and a mixed use project called "The Crossing". The city's newest attraction is "The Landing" which consists of two connected waterfalls that can be accessed via an elevator inside the city limits

Balch Springs, Texas was founded in 1878 by the Balch family. The town became an important cotton port and during the 1930s it grew into a major American city. In recent years, Balch Springs has seen a resurgence in its downtown business district and other areas of importance have seen growth as well. Despite these successes, Balch Springs is still small compared to larger metropolitan areas. The original settlers in what is now Balch Springs were Methodist Episcopalians who arrived from Tennessee in 1853. They named their new community after Benjamin Franklin Balch, one of their own leaders. After some time they realized that they needed more space so they built a gristmill and store on the banks of the Arkansas River. By 1860, however, there were already over 100 families living inBalch Springs. In 1878 the US Congress passed a bill creating the Dallas-Fort Worth Railroad which began construction clearing land for tracks at what is now Fort Worth Airport. The city was incorporated on February 17th, 1881 under the name of Dallas County with Benjamin Franklin Balch as its first mayor. It wasn’t until 1888 that Dallas County added Balch Springs to its boundaries making it an unincorporated community outside of Dallas County proper. During World War I (1914-18) many residents served in military units including infantry companies being raised near nearby Ft Worth and Camp Bowie where many Americans died fighting for our country during those difficult times not just here but also abroad including WWI veteran Arthur Ashe who later became an international figure tennis player In 1941 when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor killing over 200 U S Citizens including Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto this small town helped lead to America’s entry into World War II becoming one of airbase defenses along with Austin and San Antonio across Texas Skies
