In 1907, Angleton was founded by J.B. and Hilda Graves as a small community on the banks of the Medina River adjacent to what is now Round Rock. Today, Angleton's economy revolves around agriculture and ranching; however, Angleton has seen some growth in recent years due to its location within easy commuting distance of Austin and other major metropolitan areas. By 1910, over 50 residents had moved into Angleton from various parts of Texas and southeastern Kansas City (now Wichita), making it one of the largest communities established within Webb County during that decade. As early as 1913, railroads were providing transportation options between Austin and nearby Fort Worth so anglers could catch fish near their homes rather than having to go out all the way to Corpus Christi or Dallas-Fort Worth Airport for their catch.
