The Brownsville, Tennessee Coast Guard Station has been a part of the community for over 100 years. The first coast guard station was built in 1892 on what is now the corner of Elm and Market Streets. The current station, which is located on Gadsden Street between Elm and Market Streets, was erected in 1916. Today, the Coast Guard Station provides vital support to our community by providing law enforcement services as well as emergency response. In addition to its role as a stoplight for people traveling along the Gulf of Mexico coastline, the Station also serves as a launching ground for boat and airplane operations. The Coast Guard Station has played an important role in supporting local businesses and individuals since it was established. In fact, many small businesses have come to rely on the help of the Coast Guard when there are problems with their infrastructure or when they need assistance with safety measures such as fire prevention or pollution control. Since 1925, when Congressman John Lewis donated land for the present-day Coast Guard Station at Gadsden Street and Elm Street, gifts from individuals have helped make this facility one of the most popular in Brownsville. Some of these donors include Mrs. Aimee Ladd (1925), Drs. J F Garner and B W O’Neill (1926), Reverend C M Witt (1927), Mr H R Ford (1928), Admiral P L Frye (1929), Mrs I H Pope (1930), Colonel William S Mansfield Jr.( 1931) and Commodore W E Schaefer( 1932).

The Brownsville Coast Guard Station was established in 1881 as the first coast guard station on the Tennessee Gulf Coast. In 1912, it became part of the Texas State Patrol and then the Texas Rangers. The Coast Guard Station in Brownsville was transferred to the United States Navy in 1942 and became known as Naval Base Brownsville. It reverted back to the Coast Guard Station name in 1948. The Naval Base closed down in 1991 and its assets were used to build a new naval base near San Antonio, TX.
Brownsville is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 6,703 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. Brownsville is known for its churches and schools, as well as its extensive agriculture and ranching businesses. The community was named after Captain David Brown of the British Royal Navy who landed in what is now Brownsville in 1795 on his trading expedition seeking new lands to explore. Captain Brown's party founded a small village called Wacoalaca on the edge of what is now Brownsville. In 1836, Captain John Sitton built an Adobe Walls stockade on what are now US Highway 276 and US Highway 11 in what is now downtown Brownsville to protect settlers from Native Americans who were then raiding their homes. The first Post Office opened in 1838 under the name Wacoalaca and remained open until it was discontinued in 1865 due to lack of mail service between Knox County and Nashville. When Nashville became a city, it needed a post office so it renamed itself "NashVILLE". The first building constructed for the new post office was located on Commerce Street across from what are now Broadway Theatre, State Capitol Building and First Baptist Church (now Crossroads Baptist Church). In 1868, Wacoalaca residents petitioned Congress to establish a county seat within their municipality because they felt that they had been ignored byKnox County officials when it came to local government development. Accordingly, on July 1, 1868, Clarksburg (then inside present-day Clarksville) became the county seat of Knox County when all but one corner of Knox County were made up of Union Territory territory that had been acquired by Tennessee following the American Civil War. On November 5th 1876 General William Tecumseh Sherman's army marched through town during his march towards Chattanooga upon enteringKnox County from Chattanooga National Military Park northeastward along I-24W which closed off most potential routes for supplies convoying Sherman's army while also cutting off communications with nearby Union forces including Fort Donelson northward near Memphis or southward along I-65W which connected with Confederate forces near Anderson Station just outside present day Chattanooga

In 1898, the Coast Guard was reorganized into a separate service, the United States Coast Guard. Today, there are over 10,000 active duty members of the Coast Guard with jurisdiction over a territory that extends from Maine to Florida and includes Puerto Rico. The mission of the Coast Guard is multi-faceted and complex; it includes protecting America's coastal communities by engaging in homeland security patrols; rescuing those who have gone overboard during storms or hurricanes; responding to search and rescue operations; conducting world-wide fisheries inspections; investigating crime within our borders; performing maintenance activities on Navy ships and submarines located at various U.S. ports including Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba; assists in emergency medical evacuations; providing information technology support for state agencies across America through grants administered by Homeland Security Technology Programs (HS TP) within DHS... Brownsville is a town in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,371 at the 2010 census. Brownsville is named after General Andrew Jackson and his forces who fought in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend on September 17, 1814. The town was founded in 1846 by Major John Witherspoon and Captain James McMillin. It re-towned in 1869 after a devastating fire destroyed most of the business district. In 1907, Brownsville became part of Nashville and it has since grown greatly due to its location within walking distance of both downtown Nashville and many cultural attractions including Vanderbilt University and Nissan Stadium.
The Brownsville area in Tennessee was first settled by the Cherokee Nation in the late 18th century. The area became a part of the United States of America in 1796. In 1830, the town of Brownsville was founded on the west bank of the Tennessee River by James A. Brown and others. The settlement grew rapidly, and by 1840 it had a population of about 1,500 people. In 1852, Brownsville was renamed for General John C. Brown, who had fought in many American Wars and been awarded numerous honors including the Medal of Honor.
