The Marines of the United States Marine Corps have been Deployed in many different places around the world, from Okinawa to Saigon. One of the most famous deployments was during World War II where they were deployed to Mauldin, South Carolina as part of Operation Neptune's Spear. At first glance, it may not seem like a very militaristic place for a Marines deployment. However, during World War II, Mauldin was an important airfield because it serviced bomber and torpedo flights coming into and out of Japan. This made it important for the Marines to be here in case there were any hostilities breaking out between Japan and America. Since Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of New Orleans in 2005, many Marines have deployed back home to help with reconstruction efforts. The latest deployment has been announced by Marine Brigadier General Joshua Langer who is said to be heading up Operation Neptune's Spear III which will see marines deploying back in time to fight in WWII again!

Mauldin is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. It was founded in 1837 by Scots-Irish immigrants and has since been one of the most influential towns in the county. The population was 13,851 at the 2010 census. Mauldin is located on I-95 south of downtown Spartanburg. The town was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants who were moving west from Ireland to escape religious persecution there. They arrived at what is now Mauldin on July 12, 1837, and named it for Sir John Maundy Thursday (March 25). The first school was built in 1839. The first post office opened in 1840. In 1843, the people of Mauldin donated land to build a courthouse and jail. A railroad station was built on the same lot as the current courthouse in 1907. Mauldin has been served by various transportation providers over its history including buses, trains and automobiles. The current bus system began operation in 1976 and includes more than 20 routes that serve all of Spartanburg County. In 1935, Mayor James Witherspoon awarded his namesake award - which is now known as the James Witherspoon Award - to Mr./Ms./Dr.—now Mrs.—Johnnie Ladd for their contribution to local civic life and services through community involvement projects such as those mentioned above or other areas of interest that are considered worthy by city councils throughout South Carolina but are not typically covered by press releases or public events sponsored by city government officials or individual citizens/families residing within our borders when these types of awards are made available to individuals/families living within our borders only if these individuals/families have expressed an intent to become involved with our community service programs once they have received notice from City Council members representing our municipality during an open meeting where this type of event will be taking place less than two weeks before time period noted below following notification given to individuals/families residing within our municipality prior written notice given prior written notice required pursuant § 17-8-10 et seq., provided such notice will not conflict with any terms & conditions set forth hereinbelow regarding open meetings & participation therein unless otherwise specifically noted hereinbelow’— Mauldin Town Hall Annex
Mauldin was founded in 1819 by John Mauldin and his son, Daniel Mauldin. The town was named for Sir Walter Raleigh, who explored the area in 1606. The first store opened in 1824. In 1865, a post office was established here.
