The United States Air Force deployed a gift history in Mauldin, South Carolina on December 12, 1941. The gift history was delivered by the wife of Major General James W. "Bull" Harkins, commander of Ninth Air Force and associate member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during World War II. The gift history is inscribed with the observation that "This country owes its freedom and democracy to our air forces."
Mauldin is a small town located in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The population was 3,957 at the 2010 census. Mauldin is known for its agricultural produce and seafood. It is also home to the University of South Carolina (USC) and Clemson University. The land that now makes up Mauldin was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s. In 1820, Colonel John Cate obtained a patent from the British Crown for 2,000 acres of land near present-day Mauldin on which he built a fortified white settlement called Fort Cate. The proprietors of this new community were named Captain James Dickson, Major George Aiken, and Lieutenant John McIntosh; all three men had been officers in the American Revolution and later became prominent farmers in their respective areas. The first post office in Mauldin was established on November 1, 1827. The name “Mauldin” was chosen because it appeared on a map published by Captain James Dickson as part of his efforts to attract settlers to his new colony. At first, only white males were allowed to live there; soon after however, black residents began moving into the town as well. In 1830, Colonel John Cate granted further patent deeds totaling 640 acres to three trustees: Judge Augustus Settle (a slave owner), Drury Wigglesworth (a surveyor), and Samuel Hemphill (a lawyer). These trustees were responsible for developing and managing the property until it was sold off piecemeal beginning in 1868 to finance General Robert Ewell’s military campaigns against Catawba Indians east of Charleston Harbor. During Reconstruction era (1870-1914), many African Americans found work as servants or sharecroppers on plantations owned by white landowners throughout south Carolina but especially within Mauldin Township where they constituted about 60% of all residents during this time period according to Census records compiled by historian Lucy Moore Karpiszewski-Lengelberg. Many black men who worked on these plantations received little more than $5 per week wages while owning slaves themselves - an experience that often left them deeply affected both mentally and emotionally by what they endured despite overwhelming odds stacked against them at every turn including poverty rates among whites five times higher than those faced by African Americans overall even though they made up just over one tenth of total population growth during this time period here in Spartanburg County alone! As detailed herein I offer circumstantial evidence that lynching occurring within our township directly coincided with increased crop failures due largely to Poor Black Agricultural Production caused primarily by Lynching! Although federal troops eventually arrived late enough To effect change following local rebellions/civil unrest most violence ensuing from Race Violence occurredoutside Municipalities controlled By Federal Forces & political leaders

Mauldin is a small town located in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Mauldin was founded by Colonel James Fenton and his family in 1837. Mauldin has been home to many businesses over the years including the Fenton Manufacturing Company, which made radios and other electronic equipment. The company was headquartered in Mauldin for more than sixty years until it closed its doors in 1984. In addition to its manufacturing heritage, Mauldin also has a rich history of music. In 1951, the Fenton family donated their collection of vinyl records to the Spartanburg County Library System. This collection contains over 1,000 albums from both traditional blues and rock concerts from the early 1950s through the late 1970s.
Mauldin is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Mauldin is home to the Mauldin Presbyterian Church and many other small businesses. The primary industry in town is agriculture, with a few manufacturing companies also based there. The first settler in Mauldin was James Fenton who arrived in 1824. He built a log cabin on present-day Hwy 123 near present-day Grundy Road. A post office was established here in 1828 by George Washington Graham and named for Fenton. In 1841, John Gist moved his family to Mauldin from Greenville and began ploughing land that now comprises much of the downtown area of town. By 1849, Mauldin had two stores and three churches; it had one schoolhouse and twelve homes. In 1861, Confederate soldiers burned the Union Armory located on High Street close to where present-day University Avenue intersects White Street (now First Avenue). This event helped start the growth of Mauldin as an agricultural community during the American Civil War years. After the war ended, new settlers arrived and development continued until about 1920 when most of what remains today were constructed as part of a greenfield redevelopment project led by former Mayor Tom Sims (1946–1960). On October 8th 1960, according to Town Clerk Vicki Jernigan’s records sheet dated October 6th 1960 she announced that “Mauldine has come into being” effective November 1st 1860 when her predecessor resigned after 10 years service effective September 30th 1959 due to ill health which caused him to change his name from James Fenton Jr.. Today’s downtown area includes many old buildings dating back to before 1860 such as: The Post Office building which served as both a store & administration building during its time (& still does), The Methodist Church building added circa 1870 (& still serving) & finally Oneida Drive which leads directly out front of our current Administration Building!
