The Coast Guard in Providence, Rhode Island began as a small service in 1807. The first duty of the Coast Guard was to keep the waterways open for navigation and protect shipping. In 1916, the Coast Guard became part of the Department of Homeland Security and its mission has since shifted to protecting our nation's homeland from terrorist threats. In 1925, Lieutenant Governor John Connally requested that the Coast Guard establish a coast guard station at Fox Point on Narragansett Bay to prevent smuggling operations along the bay. The request was granted and Fox Point served as the first coast guard station in Providence. Providence, Rhode Island is a city in Providence County, Rhode Island. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. Providence was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams as a trading post on the Narragansett Bay. It became an incorporated town in 1824 and became a city in 1898. Providence is located on the lower tip of Rhode Island, just off the coast of Narragansett Bay. The bay forms the southwest border of the city and its harbor provides access to both Narragansett Sound and Block Island Sound. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Rhode Island were Native American traders who traveled downriver from Maine through present-day Massachusetts and New England before landing at Provincetown in 1636. They built their shelters on Cape Cod and began trading with local tribes for goods such as freshwater fish, shellfish, jewelry, and guns. In 1722 French explorer Jacques Marquette came ashore along the same route from Canada and reported seeing Indian villages near modern day Providence. In 1636 Roger Williams convened a meeting at which he recommended that Providence be established as a trading post on Narragansett Bay because it offered excellent opportunities for trade with nearby English settlements such as Newport (then known as Jamestown) and Plymouth Plantation. On February 14, 1637, colonists gathered at Provincetown to swear their allegiance to William Lane when he arrived with reinforcements from England to help drive out Spanish settlers east of Bristol Harbor on Long Island. By November 1637 all English settlements had been destroyed by Spanish forces during King Philip's War (1635-1647). The area was returned to English control following Queen Anne's proclamation in 1702 establishing British colonies throughout North America including Rhode Island. Providence grew rapidly after it became an incorporated town; by 1800 its population had reached 1,500 people living within two blocks of each other on Meeting Street between John street and Benefit Street where today's Statehouse stands. One reason for this growth wasPROVIDENCE'S IMPORTANCE TO THE CITIES OF RICHMOND AND NEW YORK IN GENERAL AND TO PROVINCETOWN IN PARTICULAR: For more than half a century prior to our incorporation into New York City we functioned more or less independently as an important commercial center between these cities –second only to Kingston –and brought back valuable goods which helped contribute significantly to their development." The Coast Guard has been a part of American society for over 125 years. Originally founded as the Revenue Cutter Service in 1795, the Coast Guards today is one of the largest and most well-known law enforcement organizations in the United States. The Coast Guard also provides essential humanitarian services through its Search and Rescue missions, disaster relief efforts, and maritime security. In 1912, Congress authorized the creation of a coast guard service to coincide with America’s entry into World War I. On November 3, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed an executive order creating the Coast Guard Reserve component of the National Defense League (NDL). On May 15th, 1920, it was announced that all saltwater coasts were to be included within the new National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), which would later become NOAA. The Coast Guard had always been at war on two fronts; first during World War 1 when members served aboard USS Constitution (1897-1916) and then again during World War II when they played a critical role in stopping ocean traffic from being used to support Nazi Germany. After WWII ended, Congress reauthorized appropriations for NMFS on October 20th 1946 and on December 6th allowed coastal states to create their own coast guard services without any additional federal funding. This gave rise to what is now known as state coast guard detachments or USCGCs. In 1959, NMFS merged with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) forming what is now known as Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). In 2002 separate TSA created its own border security division known as Transportation Security Administration Integration Directorate - TSA DIVISION OF INTELLIGENCE(TSA IDD). These newly created divisions were responsible for developing standards for passenger transportation security implementation across all levels of government including airports and seaports around the country while also encompasses customs operations within those areas. As homeland security became increasingly complex there was need for increased manpower capable of conducting investigations beyond just ports/airports/seaports while still remaining affordable enough so that everyday citizens can maintain their safety while traveling domestically or internationally without fear of becoming victimized by crime or terror threats outside their home country or city limits

Providence, Rhode Island is a small town in Providence County, Rhode Island. The population was 6,651 at the 2010 census. Providence is part of the New England metropolitan area. It is bordered by Pawtucket to the east, Warwick to the north, Cranston to the west and Fall River to the south. The first settlers in what would become Providence arrived from Connecticut in 1636. They built a cabin on Narragansett Bay and renamed their town after Provisions (a biblical figure). The first school in what would become Providence was founded in 1637 and soon became one of the most important educational institutions in Rhode Island. From 1785 until 1813, Providence was home to both the United States Senate and House of Representatives as well as four U.S presidents- George Washington, John Adams, James K Polk and Franklin D Roosevelt- all of whom were born here. In 1814, Congress passed an act creating Rhode Island's first land bank which operated until its collapse in 1928. Providence has been densely populated for over two hundred years with only a few scattered farmsteads remaining today; however much of what is now downtown was once rural countryside dotted with small villages dotting neighboring townships. Downtown development began during Reconstruction period following American Civil War when businessmen came to Providence looking for new opportunities due to depressed prices for farmland throughout New England following secession of Vermont and Kentucky from Massachusetts. By 1870 downtown had reached its current size with several large hotels including The Pierpoint Hotel (now known as Marriott) being built on limits set by Mayor John Exley at that time after surveys showed that Downtown could support more than one hotel at any given time without detrimentging other areas around it such as Central Park or North Kingstown Road which continued to be valuable agricultural lands until well into the 20th century After numerous fires ravaged parts of downtown between 1895-1901 particularity caused by arsonists who had learned how easy it was get firewood near City Hall building many businesses moved out into plain view along Broadway between Queen Street and State Street making way for housing developments like Masonic Temple (now known as First Baptist Church) while business owners within blocks of City Hall kept their doors open providing cheap firewood for their customers In 1923 Bethlehem Steel Corporation made history when they opened their world's largest steel mill on Brownfield Plains adjacent to present day Main Street whereupon increased demand forced them out into peripheral neighborhood across Brownfield Boulevard leading eventually to demolition of old mills/ warehouses/factories beginning circa 1970 During this time also significant amount investment went into renovating city hall complex turning it into an Art Deco styled structure complete with a large glass dome overlooking Broadwalk Finally after more than 30 years renovation project completion ledto reopening on October 15th 1992 preceded by grand event featuring performances by Boston Pianist Joanne Chenoweth and Grammy winning choir Quorum With over $100 million invested since opening various restaurants have opened up along Broadwalk including Ben & Jerry's ice cream store locating just beyond Quorum Lobby; Dunkin' Donuts relocated inside Building 1 next door approximately doubling its size; Starbucks located just outside Quorum Lobby serving coffee waffles amd pastries daily; And Zendaya's former Malibu mansion turned apartment complex located just off busy Broadwalk
