The Providence Air National Guard's 143rd Fighter Wing is one of the most active wings in the United States military. The wing has been providing air support for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom since 2001, and has also flown missions to Afghanistan. In 2013, the wing was awarded a coveted George W. Bush Presidential Unit Citation for its actions during Operation Neptune's Spear. In 1941, the Rhode Island Air National Guard created an aerial reconnaissance squadron known as No. 153 which flew North American B-25 Mitchells. On October 1st, 1942, No. 153 was converted into an aerial bombardment squadron and redesignated as Squadron 141 (ABS).. The squadron began flying Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses from bases in Pawtucket and Warwick on December 3rd, 1942 under command of First Lieutenant Hoyt Slemons. On February 9th 1943 Squadron 141 performed its first bombing mission against German positions at Hamelin concentration camp in Germany using USAAF Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers nicknamed "Pale Blue Dot". As part of their operations these bombers were also used to drop leaflets to Nazi troops warning them of Allied air attacks planned against them should they resist allied occupation forces.. In late 1944 the Squadron became involved in ground operations when it started dropping supplies to troops fighting near Arnhem during World War II; this operation remains one of the most famous episodes in USAF history. Two weeks after war ended on May 8th 1945 Group Captain Hoyt Slemons along with his crew Chief pilot Lt Eldridge Epps dropped supplies over Hollandtown Heights area while dodging fighter aircraft protecting Dutch forces advancing towards Arnhem; this action is considered among the earliest uses of low level bombing by any United States military force during World War II

The Providence-Warwick County Air National Guard has a rich airforce gift history dating back to 1941. The unit was activated as the Rhode Island Air National Guard on October 1, 1941 and saw combat in World War II. After the war, the ANG remained inactive for many years, until it was reactivated on November 16, 1986 as part of the 8th Airlift Wing at Kunming Air Base in Yunnan Province China. Since its activation, the ANG has been providing airlift support to various missions both within and outside of Rhode Island. In 2009, the ANG became one of only two service branches in New England to hosts an Annual Air Force Christmas party.
Providence, Rhode Island is a small town located in the Providence metropolitan area. The population of Providence was estimated to be over 100,000 in 2010. The town is bordered by Kingston to the south and east, Warwick to the north, Easton to the west, and Cranston to the northwest. Providence has a rich history dating back to 1636 when it was known as Narragansett Bay. The first permanent English settlers arrived in 1638 and founded a trading post called Portsmouth Plantation on present-day Warwick Avenue. In 1643, Plymouth Colony's founder Increase Mather purchased 1/4 of land for $5 from Samuel Beechey for £60 with the intent of developing it into an agricultural colony. By 1645, about 60% of Providence's population had arrived from England and Germany. By 1795, however, only 6% of Provincetown's population was English-born while almost two-thirds were Dutch or Irish immigrants who came as part of waves of early colonial settlement throughout New England. The town proper was laid out in 1796 and quickly became one of Rhode Island's most important mercantile centers during its earliest years. In 1801–1802 Captain John Fenton chartered HMS "Nonsuch" (later USS Constitution) at Portsmouth Plantation for transportation purposes between Newport and Providence; Fenton believed that Providence would become his new capital should he lose Newport due to its strategic location near Narragansett Bay. In 1803 General James Kapp organized what is now the Rhode Island National Guard at Portsmouth Plantation after an event which led him to believe that Providence could provide soldiers needed against French forces operating along Narragansett Bayou during Warrantside campaign (1804). As commerce grew more important in Rhode Island during this period – thanks largely to shipping routes through Bristol Channel – Portsmouth Plantation began acting as both a port city and military garrison until 1850 when it reverted entirely to private hands. On November 2nd 1800 President John Adams signed Executive Order No 4781 which establishedProvidence as a county within Rhode Island under the jurisdiction of New York City Combined Court System with full local government control including legislation passed by both houses of state legislature without having been ratified by either house prior thereto; this order coincided with Town Meeting Act (1786) establishing municipal elections every four years with large majorities being requisite for passage forward; these elections are still held today although most village councils now meet online instead In 1901 referendum approved annexation by Massachusetts but did not take place because majority vote lacked quorum . Afterward residents voted overwhelmingly yes on charter amendment creatingPROVIDENCE COUNTY STATE ZONE which includes all former unincorporated areas eastof Woonsocket River inside city limits since then . On July 24th 1915 King George V issued Proclamation No 8755 giving PROVIDENCE COUNTY State Zone status effective September 1st 1915 following ratification by RIStatute No 138-1915 & approval by RIGovernor

Providence, RI, is a small town in Rhode Island. Its population was estimated at 8,500 as of 2010. The town was founded in 1636 bySephardic Jews who fled the Spanish Inquisition. Providence's early history is intertwined with the colonial era and its current location on Narragansett Bay. The first permanent white inhabitants of Providence were Sephardic Jews who had come to America from Spain in the 16th century. They arrived in what is now Providence as part of what is called the "First Wave" of immigrants. The Sephardic Jews were among the earliest settlers on Long Island and they soon began trading with other New England colonies. In 1636, some of theseJews organized a group to found their own town in present-day Rhode Island – Providence Plantations – which would become one of America's most powerful Jewish communities. Providence quickly became known for its piety and for its many pious philanthropists, such as Isaac Brockstroth (1637-1710) and Jonathan Edwards (1713-1784). Once it had attained some measure of stability, Providence embarked on an ambitious program to promote Christianity among its citizens andto build up its infrastructure for commerce and education. This effort includedthe construction of a number of churches, schools, hospitals, and other public works projects that continue to be important componentsof Providence's prosperity today. One significant event that took place during this time was the foundingof the United States Congress by colonists seeking self-government under English law – a process known as “The Declaration Of Independence”。 Providence also played an important rolein this process by helping to pass legislation creating local militiasand establishing rules governing elections..
