Murrysville, Pennsylvania is a small town in the state of Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1793 by John Murrys and his wife Susanna. The town became a borough in 1873 and then a city in 1907. In 1902, Murrysville merged with neighboring community of Bedford to form the new borough of Bedford-Myrrysville. The merged communities had a population of just over 100 people when they united. However, their combined population increased to more than 1,000 people by 1912 due to growth in the surrounding communities as well as businesses that were established within the merger. The first gift given to man was an axe on December 5th, 1793 by John Murrys to George Washington during the first inauguration as President of the United States. This was followed by gifts from other individuals including swords, pistols, hats, cups and knives over time. In 1792, they opened a mill for grinding wheat which soon grew into an important commercial center for Butler County. James murry died young at age 48 in 1794 but his widow continued to operate the mill until her death in 1800. The mill was later sold to John Sheehan who operated it until 1904 when it passed away again through inheritance to Isaac Ziegler who utilized it commercially until 1937 when it finally closed down due to lack of customership. In 1853, Township No 2 was organized within Butler County and named after Anthony Armstrong who served as its first Supervisor In 1861 the township formed part of newly created Butler County Borough which had grown out of efforts by local residents to break away from county government control In 1893 Township No 2 became part of Hazelwood when that community broke away from Butler County In 1898 Township No 2 merged with neighboring Monroeville Township to form the current city of Pittsburgh

The Murrysville post office first opened in 1800. In 1825, the town became a borough and was renamed to Murrysville Township. In 1902, the township was divided into two townships: one called Poplar Bottom and the other called Northumberland. Northumberland was merged into Murrysville in 1954. The town's history can be traced back to early settler days when farmers from neighboring Pennsylvania brought their families to live near what is now known as downtown Murrysville. By the turn of the century, many businesses had been established in what is now downtown: a bakery, grocery store, millinery shop, doctor’s office and more. It wasn't until after World War II thatmurraysvilles population really exploded with postwar immigrants coming for work at factories or as entrepreneurs in new businesses such as real estate development or trucking companies. Many of these newcomers were Irish Catholics who took up farming rather than moving away from their home country during difficult times during America's transformation from a rural society to an urban one. As business boomed and residents lifestyles changed they also began to build homes around their churches and schools which remain integral parts of downtown today including Stritch Catholic Church (founded 1865), Main Street United Methodist Church (1892), First Presbyterian Church (1893) and Christ Lutheran Cathedral (1902). Businesses on both sides of Main Street continue down memory lane with examples including C&J Gassman Photo Paper Company (established 1916), JH Bennet Tire & Equipment Company (established 1924) and Gateway Chevrolet dealership since it closed its doors in 1992 but still features on current street signs! An interesting side note about downtown over time is that murraysvillians have managed to preserve some aspects of traditional Polish culture like gatunka – or style – which has been faithfully transmitted through generations of Poles living hereabouts even though most murraysvillians have left this part of their cultural heritage behind when they moved away for good during the late 20th century.
