Meadville is a small town in the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania region of north-central Pennsylvania. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. Meadville is known for its local quilting industry and has been called "the Fabric City". The town's first settler, John Meador, arrived in 1753. The town was officially created on December 6, 1854 by an act of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. It consisted of land that had been part of Clearfield Township since 1792. The fabric industry began to take hold in Meadville during the late 1800s as women began to invest in this type of production. By 1904 there were over 100 clothiers operating in the community. In 1955, Meadville became home to one of the first high school textile arts programs in the United States when it opened up shop for students at Clearfield Area High School.
