Meadville is a small town in Potter County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Altoona-Johnstown, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Meadville post office was established in 1817 and discontinued operation in 1901. The first settler in Meadville was Nicholas Mead who arrived from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1798. In 1821 Samuel Beall founded the town of Beallstown on the south side of Beaver Creek and named it for his father-in-law John Beall who had come to that area from Berks County, Pennsylvania just two years earlier. Many early businesses were conducted through local mail service which continued until about 1850 when moving business began to be handled by railroads. Meadville was incorporated as a borough on December 12, 1899, from portions of Altoona and Johnstown. At its incorporation it had a population of 2,429 people but grew rapidly due to waves of immigration starting around World War I (1914-18) and continuing into the 1920s with waves of Italians (1915), Poles (1920), Germans (1925), Greeks (1928), Lithuanians (1929), Irish Protestants (1930), Chinese laborers (1896), and Swedes (1897). The growth continued throughout the 1930s with many new subdivisions being created including Apple Valley subdivision on Industry Road near where Interstate 80 crossed Beaver Creek Boulevard today; Belleview Avenue between Rte 9W and US 22; Deer Lodge Road east of US 22; Indianola Drive northbound off I-80 near milepost 231; Meadowbrook Drive east off I-80 near milepost 237; Pinehurst Place west off I-80 near milepost 243; Parkersburg Road between State Route 11W and US 20SW During World War II much activity took place within Meadville due to its strategic location as a railroad junction between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia/ Delaware City Railroad lines providing goods or passengers for those areas during both war years respectively. After the war ended most manufacturing operations closed down while some smaller businesses such as jewelry stores & department stores survived until they too went bankrupt during the late 1970s thru 1980s recession which impacted all communities acrossPennsylvania including Meadville although there has been an increase over recent years in number of small businesses beginning up again especially since President Donald Trump’s election victory last year giving hope for economic revival in our community There are three schools located within Meadville: Meadville Area High School serving grades 9th through12thgrades (); West Side Intermediate School serving grades 7th through 8th (); Mount Carmel Academy serving grades PreKindergarten through 4th grade (). The first settlers in Meadville were farmers who had come overland from Maryland in search of new land to settle. They started out farming around what is now Meadville but soon realized that they needed more space so they built a cabin on the banks of Clear Creek near today's intersection of US 20 and PA 452. This led to other settlements being developed along Clear Creek such as West Meadville and East MeadVILLE In 1824, John Beattie donated 7 acres (27 ha) on what would later become Brewster Street west of Main Street to create what became known as Meadville Academy which still operates today as an independent school with grades 9-12th grade students
