Coffee was also ground up and sold at markets throughout Pennsylvania until it became illegal to do so in 1907.

Hanover is a town in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area and is the county seat of Montgomery County. Hanover was founded by George Washington in 1763 as a trading post on the Monongahela River between present-day Altoona and Clearfield Township. The first courthouse in Hanover was built 1802. In 1881, it became part of the newly formed Philadelphia metropolitan area. In 1910, it merged with nearby Allentown to become the second largest city in DuPage County after Chicago. The origins of Hanover are obscure but there is evidence that it may have been named for Prince Henry Augustus of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1724–1813), son of King George II of Great Britain and Queen Charlotte (1729–1814). He had arrived in America as an infant in 1755 with his father and siblings and soon after became involved with local politics serving as an delegate to several prominent Philadelphia sessions from 1761 to 1764 before being elected to Congress from Pennsylvania's 3rd district in 1767 (the same year he married Lady Caroline Johnstone). A few years later he migrated westward with his family and began operations near what would become Hanover Park on Monongahela River where they began farming until 1830 when they sold their interest to David Starr Jordan who owned more than one hundred thousand acres along both sides of the river including land which now forms much of downtown Hanover. In 1801, while still living at Allentown, Washington granted lands comprising most or all of modern-day Hanover Township to Colonel James Robertson for settlement by white men only – an act which signaled American intent to reserves large stretches eastward across Allegheny Mountain against European settlement for future generations In 1803 President James Kapp assigned General Anthony Wayne as commander-in-chiefs major general staffs expedition into western Pennsylvania during War Of 1812 which resulted in Battle Of Gettysburg where Wayne was fatally wounded near Crown Point; Robertsoncommanding brigade marched northwardWARFAREONLY under orders from Major General Edward Garrity expecting British forces led by Major General Sir John Moore instead encountered French Canadian militia numbering about 2500 strong marching southwards down White Sands Road towards Yorktown expectedly supported by British artillery positioned atop Burgh Castle; Aftermath many surveyors were killed or captured including Captain William Stevenson who discovered Forbes’ Magazine Hill site 5 miles upstream from present day town limits Surveyor Adam Smith also lost his life mapping out route US 19 & PA 286
