The Hanover Army Museum is a repository for military memorabilia from the Revolutionary War and ensuing periods of American history. The museum was founded in 1984 by then-Mayor John Stroud, Jr. It occupies two buildings on the campus of Gettysburg College, one of which was once home to the Pennsylvania Militia Regiment. The museum's collection includes items from both sides of the conflict, as well as artifacts from all over North America. Recently, it has acquired items from Germany and Austria during World War I. In addition to its collection, the museum also operates a research center that archives old military uniforms and equipment as well as battlefield reports and photos. One of the museum's primary attractions is an enormous collection of Revolutionary War battle flagons, made out of heavy cotton fabric with iron clasps at each end. Each flagon measures 18 feet long and weighs 2,000 pounds. They were donated by various individuals or groups who wished to commemorate important battles or events in their vicinity. The Hanover community in Pennsylvania was home to a small army during the Revolutionary War. The local militia units were disbanded in 1783, but the state's 3rd Regiment of Infantry continued to exist until it was disbanded in 1800. In 1784, George Washington became Commandant of the Continental Army's Pennsylvania Brigade and ordered the regiment's uniforms to be made anew. On October 25th, that year, 1st Battalion of the 3rd Regiment of Infantry traveled from Harrisburg to Philadelphia for an Armistice Day parade and Ceremony at Independence Hall. Also present were Brigadier General John Sullivan's brigade from York County and Lieutenant Colonel Nathanael Greene's brigade from Cumberland County.
Hanover is a borough in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden–Wilmington, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Hanover Township was John Childs who arrived in 1736. The township was organized on April 12, 1756 by order of the General Assembly and named for King George II of Great Britain (1720-1760). The town site lay along what is now Huntingdon Avenue, between Germantown and Northumberland Streets. In 1800, James Buchanan sent surveyors to take possession of land east of Huntingdon Avenue for a new county seat; they found no suitable location and returned home without making any discoveries about the Susquehanna River Valley or its surroundings. On October 15, 1800, James Buchanan appointed David Forbes as commissioner to select a new county seat forPhiladelphia County; he recommended that Huntingdon Township be chosen as the new site for what would become Philly County. But because Forbes had failed to achieve approval from then-Governor John Adams from Massachusetts Bay Colony (nowBoston), Philadelphia County's first government was not established until November 8th when George Washington became President of the United States and approved its creation with his signature on December 3rd. On February 14th 1801 commissioners voted unanimously to rename Hanover Township after Princess Augusta Adelaide of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld due to her marriage into the British Royal Family on January 16th 1802. On May 1st 1814 William Penn granted an act to erect a fence around the township which formed one side of present day South Street/Easton Avenue in what is now West Philly’s East Side In 1822 it became clear that there were too many people living within just two miles (3 km) of where their homes should be located so on June 2nd 1822 an act was passed providing that if any person wished to leave their home within two miles (3 km)of any other person’s house they could do so provided they took with them all their household goods including furniture and food; however this provision expired on July 29th because no one ever left anything except for occasional repairs or replacements needed outside their homes during those years . The close proximity between towns caused some problems such as flooding which happened often enough that residents started calling it “the great flood” because more than once water levels reached high enough above ground level throughout most years near both Huntingdon Avenue and South Street/Easton Ave., submerging entire blocks both ways while also damaging farms upstream as well as downstream properties . Hanover, PA is a small town located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It was established in 1786 and named after the Duke of Hanover, who became King George II of England in 1714. The town has a population of just over 10,000 people today and is one of the most recent settlements on the eastern frontier of America. The area that would become Hanover was first settled by Europeans in what is now Delaware County in the late eighteenth century. By 1804, much of present-day Chester County had been annexed by Pennsylvania, including Hanover. The town was founded on December 15, 1786 by nine settlers from Lancaster County led by John Dickson. Dickson purchased 2 acres (0.8 km2) of land off the oldPennsylvania road leading to Bethlehem for $5 per acre (0.24 ha). He built a log cabin and named it “HANOVER” after his duke's home country in England. The first store opened here on December 15, 1804; John Gadsden was the storekeeper and postmaster at this time . In 1830-31 alone, HANOVER contributed $3 to support General Washington during his stay at Valley Forge during his retreat from Yorktown following his successful campaign against British forces there two years earlier. This unusual behavior can be attributed to some anonymous donors who felt obligated to show support for our commander-in-chief even though he could not provide them with tangible benefits like victory or peace treaty concessions! The community grew slowly until around 1800 when a group of gentlemen from Lancasterusky moved into what is now Hanover Township and began developing its agricultural resources as well as erecting buildings such as houses and churches which still stand today. As early as 1810 local citizens were petitioning state legislators to create a township so they could have more control over their own affairs without dependence on state government officials such as justices or trustees who may have been biased against them because they were also members of established families with political connections within Pennsylvanian society. On October 20th, 1811 an actwas passed creating what would become known as Hanover Township but only applying to residents living within its borders - this excluded rural farmers living outside the township boundaries whose property remained taxable under original Pennsylvania law governing townships formed pursuant to an act passed by James Kipple on April 14th, 1785 which granted increased rights to Congregationalists displaced by Assembly Bill No 3 (the same day that Philadelphia became an incorporated city), providing for creation of new townships throughout western Pennsylvania specifically for these voters' convenience - effectively bypassing elected township commissioners completely! When complete all 6 newly created boroughs – Newtown Square (Philadelphia), Kensington (Westminster), Germantown (Grantham), perceptual Boroughs West Side Turnpike Borough & East Side Turnpike Borough – comprised 4%of Philadelphia's total population but 13%of its land area! These developments reflect typical patterns across North American border communities where agriculture gradually replaced manufacturing jobs due largely to technological advances brought about by European immigrants/ entrepreneurs while remaining dependent upon lordly proprietors for services such as transportation and firewood until well into the twentieth century

The population of Hanover peaked at around 10,000 in 1820. After the Panic of 1837, the population decreased rapidly and by 1840 it had shrunk to just under 1,000.
